Great thread. I am the second owner of mine. An MD here in Dallas was the first owner. My first stop was to get the recall wiring harness and Boardwalk (Hans Hoffman now RUF) knew the car without me saying a word.

Great stories, guys! Thanks for sharing. Keep 'em coming.

Did we know in '95 and '96 that the 993 Turbo was only a 2-year production run, and would be replaced by the 996 series??

Why are there soooo many less 1997 Turbos (approx 600) than 1996 (approx 1,300)? Was Germany re-tooling for the 996?

I can't believe the Sport seats was a no charge option and not many got them back then.

I didn't know that the turbo would only be a 2 year run, then as now, Porsche was pretty close hold on future plans. I think the dearth of sport seats was due to the previous design of the sport seats resulting in the seat belt rubbing on the side bolsters and causing visible wear very rapidly(less than 500 miles!). Thankfully the newer design fixed that.

Big thanks to my PO for checking that box! Mine went out the door at $120k as well, regardless of these free seats.

It was 1996 and I was 21 years old. I showed up at an autocross at Boundary Bay Airport in my 944 Turbo S. An older chinese gentleman named Pat Ma showed up in this slammed 993 Turbo. My best friend and I stared at that car and literally drooled. I would have slept with the owner to get a chance for a ride, that's how crazy I was about that car.

I made it my singular goal in life to own that car one day.

As I got to know Pat better over the years, he let me drive the car several times at the autocross track and eventually borrowed it for a weekend (swapped him for my 91 911 Turbo). In 2004, I got a call from him that his 996 GT3 had arrived and he offered for me to buy the 993 Turbo at trade-in cost.

I drove downtown and figured out a creative way to buy a $100k car on a $75k per year salary! I barely had money for gas for the next year, but I finally had my dream car. I owned the car for three years and she was everything I expected and more. I love that car and still do.

I will own another 993 Turbo one day. The 997 GT3 may appear very different, but you'd be surprised at how much it feels like a well setup 993 Turbo.

Great thread.

I bought my first Porsche in 1996. A brand new 993 Targa with 5% off MSRP.

If I knew the 993TT will become such a classic, I should have spent a little more at the time and that would have saved me a lot more from climbing the Porsche ladder in the next 14 years...

Are all you guys pups? Dreaming of a TT when you were in high school in the mid '90s. I've worked my tail off and just got mine in my early 50's.....What ever the case it is a great car and I am fortunate to have one. Keep the stories coming. Great bedtime stories!

Didn't really fit in your pattern.

My dream car in high school was a Lambo Countach. Made a few scale models of it. Never ended up getting one.

The next dream car during Med school was Acura NSX. Remember the big poster that was facing my desk at the condo?

Upon graduation got the 993 Targa instead because of its rear seats.

As I said earlier, should have bought the 993TT instead...
