Jacking & Wheel Removal Questions
I tried searching, but could not find everything I needed. Please help.
During the down-time the next couple weeks with all of the Holiday stuff going on, I plan to seek some refuge to the heated garage and do the following. Since I can't drive her (wintertime & road salt) I might as well clean her:
1) Remove wheels
2) Detail wheel barrels (RejeX wax)
3) Detail brake calipers (RejeX)
4) Detail wheel well liners (303)
My Questions are:
1) How do I properly "pre-lift" the car so I can get the floor jack under the correct lift spots? Please post photos if you have them. I think I need some wood block thingy. Any other tips would be much appreciated.
2) Proper wheel torque settings?
3) Can I safely leave the car on the floor jack and do one wheel at a time over the course of a couple days?
This is my post #993!!!!
THANKS! Happy Holidays to everyone.

1) I've been lifting by the engine - lift under the oil drain plug - for the rear and in the center on a large piece of plywood for the front. Used to drive on some 2x10 piece of wood to get clearance but now have a low profile aluminum race jack with the lifting pad removed for clearance.
2) 130NM
3) wouldn't leave on a floor jack, you need some jack stands (put them on the 4 jack points)
good luck and have fun!

Thanks guys! Do I need to use one of these (to help protect against chipping the paint on the calipers)? Will it be in my tool kit, or do I need to buy one from Sunset or Suncoast?

Spend some time on p-car.com and click on the DIY section. Lots of good basic stuff on there.

I believe most everything is metric on our european cars...except psi and miles, just realized also wheel size...I wonder what else?

Thanks everyone for the info and advice on this project. This cleaning and detail project took me a few days and an equal number of beers!
I spent the first couple days reading posts & info and getting my tools. I needed a deep well 19mm socket, 3 inch extension, 1/2 drive torque wrench (Craftsman), Low Profile Alum. 2-ton floor jack (Craftsman) and jack stands.
Everything went real well. I took my time, and worked slow. I did 2 wheels the first day, and then finished the remaing 2 wheels the next day.
I plan to do this again at year-end before putting the car up for next winter's storage.

Don't use Craftsman jackstands. Only tool you trust your life to, might as well spend some cashola.
