Anyone care to take a wild guess as to what this is a depiction of?
Hint: the answer is, "The reason I just bought four flat-top AC-style jackstands."

The manufacturer kept taking out material on the support until it will yeald if there is any side load on it what so ever. I bet it will hold 3 Tons if there is no side load or twisting.
My guess is you had this one under the rear of the car and there was a slight rotation of the car, as viewed from the top, as you jacked up the front of the car.
Now I have to go look at my jack stands....

I'm fine, as is the car. This happened about a month ago, and I forgot to post the story. I was jacking up just the rear, had the front wheels chocked. Put the jackstands in place, began to lower the car, and head a noise I'd rather not ever hear repeated. Thankfully I still had the jack under the engine case, raised the car back up, took the stands out, and both were somewhat bent, this one worse than the other. The welds did not fail, but the housing that supports the "stand" portion did. On the other stand, the two "slats" are still parallel, but the entire housing is tweaked out of position.
