Default Buying a 993 Turbo (Need Some Advices)

Hi guys,

I need some advise or help on which car to purchase. I was planning to buy a stock 1997 993 turbo with about 35k mileage for $60k (have been my dream since it first came out). But then I saw this http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/993-t...=p4506.c0.m245

I don't know much about mod car, but this seem like an awesome car for this price. Which one would you choose? I'm not looking to re sell or anything. I want to keep it for a while and enjoy driving it. Any help would be appreciates.

Thank You
Kenny

Just my opinion, but proceed with extreme caution. First, there is no such thing as a GT2 S that I know of. There was, of course a 993 GT2 but it's nothing like this thing.

How did it become 2wd? Was it originally a turbo and the front drive was disabled? Was it a C2(S) that had turbos added? Those brakes are NOT from a turbo - way too small. I'd be scared to drive that thing if it really has 700hp with less brakes. Also, what's up with those buttons just ahead of the gearshift? Not stock either, so what are they? Mine has sunroof and rear wiper controls there.

From an ebay perspective, the guy has no transactions and no feedback (good or bad). Also, there are spelling errors all over that ad. May not mean anything, but...............

Totally agree, much wierdness in this ad and car...

Brian covered it pretty well above.
I would not take another step. The seller doesn't seem to even know what it is. Or what it isn't

Just received some info from the seller.

"Hi, it was originally a 98 C2S widebody that i purchased for
$50,000 with 46000 miles on it... the 98 993 C2S was very
collectable, which it still is... I did Ruf Ctr2 bady work, bilstein
Pss9 suspensioncargraphic racing exhaust racing flywheel ,
cargraphic triple plate race clutch... as it got to 66,000 miles it
had slight oil leaks from the head and valves, and was losing
power.. I decided to rebiuld the ENTIRE motor from the ground
up, and also desided to convert it to a twin turbo garret bb
turbos that are modified with double bladed fan blades to
eliminate turbo lag all internal parts are cargraphic and
Evolution motorsports all #,s match at 1 bar boost pulls 595 HP
at 1.3 bar boost it pulls 700 HP.. it can only be described as
retarded fast.. My friends have moded lambos, vipers, and
ferrarris and i literally toast them, biult by Bobby Zighn of
Mannhattan Motor sports.. I have all reciepts. the rebiuld and
conversion cost $48,000 it is the most reliable everyday drive i
have ever owned!"

Nope, GET AWAY from EBAY, put your PC DOWN and get AWAY!! That car is not going to be worth what you pay for it. The headaches it could bring you could be HUGE. As everyone said here its dangerous to be driving a car like that with those itty bitty brakes. If he really cared about the car he would have done the brakes, probably the most important issue after the rebuild.
Sounds like you have a decent car for 35K miles for a decent price at $60K. Perform due diligence and get the car inspected. Get the owner to correct any major issues and buy it or pass on it.
This ebay car is nutty. Its a bastardization of what a Turbo is supposed to be. Also Every TT owner or Porsche fanatic will know its a weird car. Oh and lets talk about resale......

I know Bobby Singh at Manhattan Motor Sports. He has serviced my 993T for the last few years. No compliants other than he is expensive but does great work. I would call him up and ask about the car if you are really interested. He has 2 shops, one on the upper east side for minor service and a new one on long island. I believe he was the lead mechanic at Manhattan Motor Cars for many years (nyc Porsche dealer) and the started his own shop. Good luck and I hope this helps.

I would pass, I've seen the car, it's ok, but just too bastardized. FWIW I've never heard anything good about manhattan motorcars.

Ah, so he does know what it is... so why not put THAT in the ad instead of listing it as a "GT2 S". Interesting! And I mean that in a bad way.

More importantly, who is the girl exiting the car in one of the pics and what in the world is strapped to her leg?

For that kind of money you can get a very nice turbo.
Have fun with the search.

Thank You everyone for all your comments. Obviously I don't know much about mod car, so I am staying away. I am going for the stock 993 Turbo and hopefully some day have it send to Ruf for a conversion.

Cheers
Kenny

That's one of those retractable leashes, conveniently placed to quickly attach to the next schmo foolish enough to support her high maintenance![QUOTE=MarkD;6798823More importantly, who is the girl exiting the car in one of the pics and what in the world is strapped to her leg[/QUOTE]

Default Good luck!!

New to this site as a new 993 Turbo owner also. Wish I has some of the info and recommendations from all of you before I bought my car but I think I lucked out. Got a great 30k mile california car in great shape. White with blue interior. LOVE driving it. As an former corvette owner this is quite a change....can't believe I waited this long.
