Default Power Seat Problem

I have a 97 993 TT and both power seats do not operate forward and backward. The seat up down and seatback operates correctly but only the forward and back power options do not work.

Any simple fixes or do I need to replace the switches or motors?

For a while I could get it to work by jiggling the seat but now that does not work either.

Any ideas would be appreciated

Usually a cable problem. Not too hard to fix actually. I had the same issue on mine. Common problem on 993's.

here's the fix: http://p-car.com/diy/seatshaft/

Do you hear the motors working? If you do, try the "bucking bronco" technique, which is just like it sounds. Get in the seat while holding the switch and vigorously rock back and forth. Worked for me once when mine got stuck.

I had the same exact problem, passanger seat would not go forward/backward. Not sure if 993 are same as 964 but this solved it....

Thanks for the links guys. I will try the repairs this weekend. I think the cable is OK but the contact arcing issue sounds like the problem.

That worked a few times but now it's just not doing anything.

Mine was a ***** of a job because there was a coin stuck in the seat rail, so the seat couldn't go back to get at the motor.
Might pay just to make sure the same hasn't happened or you will go through this and possibly not need to do the repair.
That little cable was also $230 for memory.
Thats NZ $, so about $10US
Yep, it's that bad!
