Default Ram Air System

https://www.gruppem.co.jp/onlinestor...products_id=87

Saw this "Ram Air System" posted on another forum.

In the link above, it states for a "993 GT2 '96-'98 3600cc".

Anyone here try this on their '95-'98 993tt / s ?

They reckon ram air works in the GT2, relieves pressure on the compressor helps it run cooler.... but as I documented once the Gruppe M loses 10hp on the 993tt..

I think that there are two things. The first is the restriction of the stock snorkel, getting a larger feed from above the intercooler as gruppe M have tried to do is certainly a better idea in theory than drilling holes in the side of the airbox or replacing the airbox with a large cone filter that takes air from below the intercooler.
That said although the theory suggests it should be better, at TB has demonstrated in reality the gruppe M system loses power. This is likely to be due to the restriction of their cone filter or another effect rather than the larger air intake.
It doesn't mean that an airbox with a large panel or even larger than stock panel filter with a larger snorkel wouldn't give benefits over stock (although no-one appears to produce one of these, maybe I'll have a go one day).
The other thing is "ram-air", turbocharged or not, putting the intake in a high pressure zone has to be a good thing and as TB says can reduce the workload of the compressor (equivalent to having a really low loss intake system which is what we're talking about with upgraded filters, airboxes etc. anyway). The vertical intakes of the GT2 wing probably accomplish this, the gruppe M implementation probably doesn't.

TB,
I haven't been able to follow the explanation of how the intake manifold causes the air to expand allowing cooler air in the combustion chamber but it must work becasue they can run more boost in the GT2. That's it! more boost is ram air.

Well that just scuppers my next project!
I was going to take two of those big plastic funnels they use to stop dogs chewing on themselves after surgery and velcro them onto my rear wing inlets......

Still looking here for a way to get more fresh air to the compressors w/o installing my big GT2 tail/intake hoses.
This gadget would be nice except 1) they've removed the grill/intercooler seal-how much that decreases the IC efficiency isn't clear-but it doesn't help I'm sure and 2) apparently it restricts flow.
I'm probably going back to the stock setup and will cut one hole in the intake box, and run a hose from it to somewhere.

The stock intake is a restriction for those of us running big turbos. You can see the intake box compress in during a dyno run! There comes a point where the restriction (which generates heat) becomes arguably more important than the temp of the air entering the airbox (not post IC here guys) cutting holes in the airbox is necessary or something similar. The two strongest running 993tt's I've been in both run open element filters, which are the devil incarnate here, but seem to work very well.

I would go with something home made vs this $$ kit, the filter looks really small too

Isn't that a Fabspeed Carbon N/A box?

Josh - You are wrong - the FS website says 45HP but you can get over 100 more witht the combination of headers, by passes and this cool box..... LMAO!!

Simon.
