Congratulations on the new born! I think there's provision in the road law for any Porsche with a newly assembled engine to be driven with no bodywork or exhaust just as soon as you can get it off the hoist and out the door. But it must be done between 10:00pm and 2:00am when the neighbors are surely asleep so the noise of the 993 turbo engine with nothing after the turbos gives them the full aural shock and awe.
Mission accomplished!!! I threw some wheels on last night, no rear bodywork, bolted on the EVO pipes - so its loud (and throws flames). At about 1am last night I dropped it off the jack stands started it up and let it warm up while I attempted to bolt the recaro back into the brackets (which proved to be one of the harder parts of the entire operation). I made sure to suction mount a video cam to the side of the car - which I hope to post by tomorrow. I made a few easy passes as I did not want to throw the coals to the new turbos yet, mainly bc the ECU I bought off a fellow rennlister which is supposedly tuned by Manthey Racing has not been dyno tested for AFR's or anything. That said, everything seemed to be working very nicely so I started applying a little more throttle. On a second pass, after all four wheels were searching for grip as boost was starting to build in second I eased of a bit - yes spinning all 4 in second. At this point, I have no reason not to believe the ECU was tuned by Manthey, I also have no reason to believe it won't spin all 4 in 3rd either. I am astounded at the throttle response and how insanely fast my car is now. I have been in a couple of 500hp cars (all of them quite a bit heavier), and nothing feels remotely close to this.
Before pulling it into the garage and shutting it down I wanted to capture a little of the new sound on video, so I lifted the deck and pulled on the throttle cable and not only was I loving the sound, but also the shots of blue flames firing out the pipes. My hours of labor seem to have paid off. I hope to get it to a dyno this weekend and find out for sure!!
so this is a snap of what the evo exhaust looks like after a little rev at night. Sweet flame throwers!
here's the vid from whece the below shot was taken and the first loud drive wo bodywork was taken...as promised http://www.vimeo.com/3732138
that video has me sorely tempted to go the garage, manually raise the door, push the other cars out of the way, push my Turbo down the driveway (waking the kids is NOT an option) and go for a moonlight drive (with the Doors for a little company until I get some heat in the tires ...)
Also, was that a suction cup camera mount? I'm looking for a really solid suction cup triple mount (one with those cool "pump" suction cups.)
