After over 100+ launches of 600+whp, Samurai Speed finally found the limits of the GT-R's transmission!

The question is, what car with 600whp won't blow up a transmission after 100 hard launches (manual clutch or otherwise)? I'm tempted to think this video proves how durable these trick boxes actually are!

Regards,
Chris

Random: I think the Viper's factory durability program runs a few hundred "dumped clutch, no-lift shift" passes. Insane.

I know, it goes faster than speed of light around Nurburgring, and gets 112 mpg, and is Motor Trend Car of the Year (yah I'm impressed).

But did they really HAVE to make it so plain, or even ugly?

Plain? No, in fact it could be the most unusual car design out there, there would be no controversy if it was plain. Ugly? That's a matter of taste. If they had gone the traditional European way of designing a sports car, we would have criticized it for being fake, just like the NSX. With the GTR, they stick with the Japanese identity, and that's great if you ask me.

Chris

NSX was Revolutionary.
Nothing revolutionary on this car.

Ditto.
Hellofa car if you ask me. Friggin awesome power for a DD.
I wonder if it will ever gain iconic status like the 240Z? I doubt it. These brutal cars will be on yards in 2 years for a fraction of the price...........sadly.

can it reliably outperform a porsche and over extended period of time? I don't think so. Launch control is cxl'ed for next year model. Also not half price. Aparantly boring to drive. and yes very very very IMHO ugly, I couldn't believe that they actually built a car so ugly as their flagship.

VERY boring to drive trust me. That and you can't mod it for fear of losing the warranty along with a laundry list of rules you must follow since the gps and black box is keeping track of you.

Big pass

Isn't the Cd 0.27 or something like that?

Frankly, I don't like the looks, but I respect the car completely. It would be a fun car to own and use as a dd and then some.

The 911 is an icon. A design of extraordinary appeal. But it is not the only good or even great car out there!

I don't really see anything "unusual" about it, at least not in the positive sense. It is a hodge podge of angles, planes, in an uninspiring way. It might go like a bat out of Hades but looks like scrap panels from the 1980s econobox soldered to a midsized chassis.

Not really want to bring NSX into it, but since you mentioned, there is something solid and proper about NSX, as in a Honda Civic meets Ferrari Testarossa kind of way. You can't possibly mistaken NSX for a Ferrari, but it also does not look like Honda tried to fool you into thinking it is. I don't even see what the GTR's possible inspirations are.

If I were a Japanese auto designer, I would be offended if, as you said, GTR truly defines a "Japanese identity." It's basically a tuned-down ricer mobile look. Not something I want to be identified with.

Are you referring to the current GTR only or the entire/previous Skyline GTR range?

Because like the 911, the GTR has a serious following...

Seems Nissan doesn't have the same confidence as you...
