Protomotive is for 993's, EPL for 996's. Different companies but both run a ton of the 16 and 18g hybrids. While Tony can tune ME5 without any problems he mostly works with ME7 and higher (996's).

I would reccomend protomotive for the 993 platform. If Tony ever makes it to chicago to custom tune some cars I would have him tune my car on a differnt ecu and i compare tunes/performance.

Jean - You are correct about the 16-18g wheels not being garretts

Josh,

Not to add fuel to the fire - but I am currently running STOCK turbos (k16???) with a custom tuned chip giviing 1 Bar and thats about it.

I run cats ( well i assume they are fried - but i need them for yearly inspection - and as long as they pass a cursory visual insepction I am happy) and muffler by passes - Thats it!!

So - my question - if i get these turbos - I will obvioulsy have to get the ECU re programmed but - would they be any better?

TIA,

Simon.

and YES - i still spank the GT3's with stock turbos....

haha yes! I would ALWAYS reccomend a k16 based hybrid over stock K16's that is a no brainer and quite honestly Simon i am shocked that you still have stock turbos!! haha

In this particular case I am also reccomending a k16/16g hybrid over the standard K16/24. Your car will be significantly faster than a stock car with K16 based hybrid and tuning regardless, my car used to have k16/24's with proto tuning and would romp all over my friend in his stock tt.

Have you ever been in a tt with hybrid turbos and tuning? Its night and day!

Josh,

Yes i have - but mine are stock for a few reasons.....

1 - I am already running in an open class - but have a few restrictions - mainly in my case = budget
2 - I was quietly squirreling away funds for an upgrade - was going to do it all at once but once again - budget.
3 - I then.... well..... sort of.....well.... hit the wall.... and the result = NO or in my true case NEGATIVE budget.
4 - then I decided to do silly things like GT2 kits and carbon and ally bits = now double negative budget...

Anyway - sent you a PM,

SImon.

lol that doesn't look like ANY fun at all Simon! haha Consider me jealous, here in Chicago there will be salt on the roads soon for winter and my car is done for the season. She will look like an entire different beast come the spring though I promise!

Replied to your PM.

Are these K24/18g turbos more efficient than Kevin's new K24 turbos utilizing the 997gt2 compressor wheel/hyflow turbine?

I have no idea. They are cheaper though. Call up protomotive and umw and ask them why they think each one is better and make your decision based on them

At what RPM are you seeing full boost with the 24/18g? Confirm you're still at 3.6L. Thanks.

good question, without actaul logs from my car it won't be accurate though. My car also has a short ratio gear box and test pipes which won't make it as comparable to other tt's. Give Protomotive a call and he can accurately tell you when full boost will hit on a stock tt with K24/18gs

It seems to me that the rpm where you see full boost for hybrid turbos (if motronic tuned) can be more a function of the program and not the turbos. Boost will be limited in lower rpm (preferentially advancing timing) and only allowed to go up to full boost in higher rpms. If you have a program with ebc, (and boost is not modulated at max torque) you'll see the effects of 'lag' and maybe more 'on' and 'off' behavior I suspect? ... we figured this out recently on another thread...

Back up for sale Matt Guy decided that he wanted to go the Garrett/ball bearing route. Can't say that I blame him

If anyone is looking for turbos please let me know as I would love to get these out of my office!
