Default Tire recommendations? anyone use sumi?

hey guys,
i havent posted for a while as work has kept me too busy, but hello to the entire gang.

My Turbo needs new tires (ive always used S02) and was interested in other possibilities. Besides PS2, what else should i consider?

Some folks on the 993 forum recommend the Sumi tires. What else should i consider? I need a tire that doesnt flat spot as the car often sits for 2-3 weeks w/o use.

Im using stock TT twist rims and the car is mostly street with only the occassional track day (3 a year). suspension is pss-9..
thanks
rob

Rob - try the Bridgestone RE050PP. I changed to that from the S02 and have been very pleased. Quiet, better ride and better wear. Excellent wet grip.

To help against flat spotting you could always over-inflate your tires to 58 PSI, when you know it is going to sit for an extended period of time. Then reduce the pressure when getting ready to drive.

You could also try the "tire cradles" advertised in the car mags ($400). I don't know if they help.

I over inflate and park on hard/dense rubber matts (buy at Home Depot) for winter storage, and never have flat spots with any of my cars. These are the rubber tiles you would find in a healthclub weight room.

sorry for me it's got to be the Michelin Pilot Sports all day long. Great wear and I find on my 965 the grip is excellent. I appreciate it's not a 993 but we have the same wheels!!

Michelin Pilot Sport Cups. They are R compound, but last plenty long and are so much fun on track and street. Only downside is stay under 60 mph in the rain, but most don't drive in the rain much anyway.

I had Sumitomo's on my old Boxster years ago. Very good tire wear, I got 20k miles on the rears before I had to change them.

I don't see how you can do better than PS2s for a street car, even one that sees occasional DE duty. I realize they're more expensive than most tires, but when you amortize the cost over the live of the tire, the difference is insignificant.

I have the new Sumi HTRZ III's on my 993tt. Got almost 1k miles on them now. I have been very pleased with them - very smooth, good grip, low noise (too few miles to know for sure) but for the price they are fantastic. Based on the TireRack testing they have comparable grip to the PS2's at half the price

I too have the HTRZ III's, have them on for about six weeks, very pleased with dry grip and low noise. Haven't driven in the rain with them yet, but I do drive my car in the rain, so wet grip is important to me. I made my decision from reports at tirerack.com and the thread from the Rennlist 993 board. So far, no regrets.
