Default Looking for the best 993 turbo.

I am new to the Porsche world, I am in general more of a Ferrari guy, I beg your indulgance...

But, I recently bought my wife a nice 6 speed 997 and for the first time I am smitten by these little punch-buggies.

Anyway, I am developing a real attraction to a air cooled turbo to use , respectfully. as a daily driver.

I am in the market for the best, most dependable air cooled 993 turbo available.

Extraneous options would be a minus, I'm looking for an honest, raw, basic 993 turbo.

Any leads appreciated and will be recognized if car purchased!!!!

Addendum: The reason I'm looking for a 993 turbo is that I have taken my wife's 997 to my usual sportbike roads and have been sadly disappointed at the performance: I suspect a 993 turbo will have more of the sportbike "feel".

For a Ferrari guy any 993 Turbo will be considered "most dependable".

LOL too easy... welcome to the club.

I would look for a non modified 993TT preferably with decent miles and maintenance records, and if you feel you need a bit more punch just go with a factory 430 or 450bhp upgrade. These stock cars are such a pleasure to drive daily, nothing beats their balance between rawness and comfort.

LAT are you still cruising the US with your new toy?

I am and I am in Woodster country with Tornado warnings.

Car is great, low octane 90/91 doesn't help me get the most out of it, waiting to get better fuel.

Have a rear wheel vibration at 120+ mph that I need to get fixed. The AC is buggered, kind of reminds me of another 993TT I drove in the desert once. lol.

When I have opened her up she has been amazing in low end response but I am assuming there is more as the ECU must be retarding timing to make up for the bad fuel.

Full report soon with XA-22

I f you really want power and are a cheap guy, you will find better value with a car that is lightly modified, as most first buyers want original example...until they get it home then they mod it (suspension must be changed anyway). you pay more for the car and then pay for the mods and waste time trying to get it set up right. better value to get one with low miles and already lightly modded and set up. BTW I am sure you are aware not to buy any tt without a full PPI done by shop of your choosing. good luck and welcome to the forum.

LAT: enjoy the drive and the warm dry weather. I am supposed to be at Mosport sat and sun and now forecast is rain. please be sure to post pics.

I agree, suspension mods and brakes are a nice addition for a used car being purchased ECU, I would prefer to see a Porsche factory option in there, or a stocker, just IMO.

Hey, I was just trying to give you a feel for the real meaning of desert, coming from Canada and all, it was supposed to be an experience

Looking forward to hear more about your new car.

Having raced sportbikes for a number of years, the AWD in the 993TT will make the front feel numb compared to a 2wd model. The 993TT is a great daily driver, and a competent car, however, to get the sharp reponsiveness you are accustomed to, the 2WD model is much better.

Except that there IS no Factory 2wd option available in the US of A on a 993TT.
The GT2, as it is called, is like unobtainium even in Europe.

I understand that. It makes me lean more toward a non-turbo model.

Screw that. Buy a turbo and remove the FWD. It's half a day of work and it's reversible if you ever want to sell the car.

I had one of the nicest C2S's,sold it and I have to say I took the Turbo out on twistys yesterday and the 408 ponies make up for everything I miss about the 2 wheel drive.
It was like I could do no wrong, point and shoot.Just my personal experience, though

Got to www.truspeedmotorcars.com - in costa mesa california. I was there yesterday and they have a super nice, low mile black 1997 993 TT. Lots of photos on the website. They are good guys to deal with and only handle super clean cars.

Good luck with your search!
