My brother works in the aerospace industry, 15 years as a pattern maker and now he's a planning engineer based out in Denmark. I was talking with him with regards to my intercooler pipes, the one i had on my 930 engine with the 965 intercooler was pretty crap and badly thought out, it seams the ones on the 993tt are no better. Why they don't have a recessed groove for the clip to sit in is a mystery to me, anyway, i need a pair of new pipes as mine are shot, and we got talking.
He can make a pattern from my old pipes, basically so they will be the exact shape with the bends etc, the tool will be made from aluminum on a 5 axis CNC machine, the tool will be in two halves with the pipes being formed inside the tool with some kind of vacuum process. They will be made from Ultra high temperature, glass reinforced silicone rubber with a service temp of 330 C and will withstand short bursts of 375 C (way above any temp the engine will see) the material is used in aircraft so it's a bit OTT but he said they will be near indestructible, low elongation with a seriously high abrasion resistance, and of course they will be manufactured with a groove for the hose clamp/jubilee clip to sit so they will NEVER pop off, they will also be a solid matt orange colour too which will look cool.
Do you think in the future there would be a market for pipes like this, it's going to cost me quite a bit to have the tooling made up, and it would be great to know that there might be a market for them so i could recoup some costs, this is only possible with my brother being in the industry he is in, the material is stored at something like -20 C to keep it workable, and they need to be cured in an autoclave for 3 hours so it's not a garden shed job! He is going to get back to me with how much he thinks it will cost to produce a pair, i was just seeing whether I'm wasting my time, maybe they will be too over engineered for the job?
Comments welcome
Cheers

I, too, would be interested.
I gave thought, (and still thinking about this) to fabricated pipes from aluminum with Wiggins clamps on at least the IC end of the hoses. It would make servicing things quicker and easier.
If you need help with the machining of tooling, let me know.

I've blown around 4 passenger side IC hoses at the IC hookup. Got a quote from Protmotive to one off a 'hard pipe' but never actually asked to have it built. Your solution may work so I'd be interested.

I am having some fabricated out of aluminium with ceramic coating to deflect the heat... I have got through around six hoses (mostly the passenger side ones too) in 18 months. Oh yes, I just changed one, make that 7 hoses!
There is DEFINATELY a market, at least on this forums!
