Default 95-modell versus the later models ??

Could anybody please update me as to the differences between the early
95-modell versus the 96 , 97 , 98 models.

Know it has been written somewhere, but can`t find it.

Is the 95-model such "bad" guy ??

Svein,

The 1995, OBD 1 car, is an excellent choice, as are all and any of the 993s. This topic has been discussed many times on this forum, and generally turns in to a religous debate. You should try and search for related topics, and enjoy the discussion. Bottom line... there is no such thing as a bad model 993.

I just realized.... you are talking about a turbo.... my brain went to normally aspirated when I saw the model years your were talking about. In the USA the turbos are 1996 and 1997 only. in 1998, the only turbo model in the USA was the turbo S. My first 993TT (Waldo) was a very, very early build... the first TT in the USA, I believe. It was built in 3/95, but was still officially a 1996 model year. In Europe, you guys are about one year ahead of us. Now... the differences between a USA 1996 and 1997 car are very, very small details that shouldn't really sway you one way or the other.

Good luck

The 1995 turbo has OBDII. The only differences between 95/96 and 97/98 turbos, as far as I know, are a stronger 1st gear input shaft on the later models, a light above the ignition key, and a different type of computer that can be more easily programmed. The '95s may have a different immobilizer/alarm setup.

Thanks guys.

Generally I thought that cars were of a new modell year when released in october.
I understand that you say the 95 and 96 were alike.
But cars are specifically labelled 95 , 96 and so on here in Europe.

There is a car at Paul Miller that has caught my attention.
But I find them a bit hard to make a good PPI.
Good PPI would involve a drive and then inspection , looking for leakages( dried up seals).
But maybe they don`t like taking the car outside ; - winter !!

They welcome a PPI though , at theire own store.

Svein,

In The USA, there are no 1995 Turbos, even those built early in 1995 are labled as 1996.

I suggest you start a new thread with the topic "Help... I need someone to look at a car at Paul Miller in (city)". People here are pretty helpful, and can give you a full report. You would have to buy them a nice dinner next time they are in Norway

Whatever you do, do not allow them to perform a PPI themselves. The car must be taken to an independant mechanic that YOU are paying.

They accept for Princeton Porsche ( same area) to bring along one of their mechanics to perform an inspection.

Princeton want 670 dollars for the inspection.

If Princeton will do a compression check and a leakdown test of all cylinders, as well as a full inspection, that price is only slightly outrageous. Not horrible. However... get a Rennlister out there to inspect it first and see if its worthy of that investment. Or fly over yourself to take a look.

Good luck.

Thought so about what Princeton charges.

But if they do a full test , sylinders as well , that is what I have to pay.

Paid 250 for a test at Pioneer Centres Porsche in San Diego 6 weeks ago.

Probably more expensive to live on the east coast ???!!!

Kevin.

Don`t remember.
The car had repairs estimated to 9000.

Seals on transmission and gearbox, turboes etc. Seller did not belive the PPI to be true.
More or less called Pioneers liars.
But all my respect to Pioneer , they didn`t say much about the seller.
Very professional people.
Actually I do not think the seller knew that much about Porsches.
Car had only 14000miles.

Result not surprising ; - when cars are beeing locked up in garages.

But don`t we all look for that beauty with low miles and a healthy condition.
Seldom comes true I thinhk.
