Maintenance Expenses

Maintenance Expenses
To those of you who have had a regular 993 and a TT-- I'm interested to know how much more the maintenance costs are for the TT (and especially any big ticket items).
Reason I am asking is that I am considering moving from a 993C2S to a TT.
Thanks

Not enough personal data yet.
This thread has a good discussion on this topic: https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...ferrerid=35947
there is at least one other here IIRC, but I can't find it.

I keep pretty good tabs on my car expenses. I bought my 96 993TT with 66K miles right at 4 years ago. It now has 94K miles. I use my car as a daily driver and never defer repairs or maintenance. I do all of my own repairs so your costs could be much higher if you use a garage to do the work. Here are my costs:
Repairs $1126 (largest item being a steering rack for $609)
Tires $3089 (8 rears and 2 fronts)
Other Maint $881 (oil, filters, plugs, belts, inspections, etc.)
Improvements $2600 (largest item being Gert's HD suspension kit for $1350)
So, all non-optional stuff cost $5096 over 4 years and 28K miles.
($1274/year or 18 cents a mile)
YMMV

The car needed backs when I first bought it so that pair didn't really count and I just recently changed them (both included in the 4 pairs purchased). Between changes I've averaged right at 8K miles. What would be normal for rear tire wear for a 993TT? I would get about 10K on a '91 C2Turbo and 15K on a '85 911. 8K doesn't seem too out of line for the 993TT. I'd love to get more mileage from a set if all I need to do is get another alignment.

Other than the turbo system itself (turbos being rebuilt, diverter valves, updating pressure hoses to MY97 units), I can't think of any TT-inherent expenses when compared to a C4 or C4S. Certain, common, maintenance items are more labor-intensive (valve covers, oil changes by a little bit) on the turbo, but that's about it.
As far as other operating expenses are concerned, I'll paraphrase another RL member (Steve, IIRC) - Due to the low compression ratio of the turbo motor, the TT gets bad gas mileage when it's off-boost. It gets horrible gas mileage when it's on-boost.

my TT was so well sorted when I got it that no mods were necessary. this is generally the most expensive column on the spreadsheet.
other than going through more gas- they're the same. a car in the same condition driven the same way will cost the same from the 993 range.
now if you're tracking the car more because it's a turbo, then you're gonna have higher costs, but even then it's mostly just brake pads/fluids/flushes + tires/alignment + oil services which eat into your wallet if you're going all the time.

I had a lot of expense the first couple of years until I got it sorted out the way I wanted. Since then it has been the regular maintenance schedule plus tires. I would think the costs would approximate the C2S because the only real difference is the long term care of the turbos, which if treated well, is minimal.

I bought my turbo three years ago with less than 10k miles and currently have over 21k on the clock. Outside of routine maintainence, the three items that failed were the turbos about a month ago, obc screen and ended up buying a whole new tach (not totally necessary) and the balast (i think) for one of the litronic headlights. I forgot to mention a pair of front rotors a month ago as well...I consider that sorta normal if not a little earlier than expected.
