Default hot air blower staying on?

Hi All,
How long does the hot air blower in the engine compartment stay on after the engine is switched on? Seems like mine has decided to stay on for over 5mins. This happened after I fired her so my brother could hear her running...she was only running for 1min or so...and now the blower is still running 10mins later.
cheers
taj.

Good question as my blower won't turn on after I shut my engine off

your sensor is bad, easy fix about 50 bucks if i remember correctly. it triggers the fan and the flapper to close.

I replaced the temp sensor and the rear blower resistor and it still won't go on.

Got me ....that was the sensor I replaced. Maybe test the blower on it's own. Could be a dead motor ??

Yes, it's a mystery. The blower works, just not when I shut the car down.

Scott, do you have the part numbers for those two?

Taj: My blower cycles on and off for a few minutes and then shuts itself off within a pretty short time.

The blower motor will cycle on & off for short bursts after shutdown to scavenge out hot air if the temp sensor records a high enough temperature in the engine shrouding. There is also a "time-out" feature that stops the fan from cycling on after about 15 minutes. If, after shutdown, the fan never cycles on when hot or it continually runs until the "time-out" feature turns it off, something is probably wrong. The easy and inexpensive problems are a bad temp sensor (most likely) or thermo switch. If those check out OK, could have a bad Climate Control Unit - @$1,000.

By the way, my own experience was a running-on fan, leading to a dead battery if I made too many short trips. I started replacing parts ($$$) without a solution - finally Tony Callas found that the new, dealer purchased, factory Temp Sensor was defective. Tony put in a new one again & everything has worked fine since.

It could also be the blower motor itself, which is $508 at Pelican. It's probably cheaper from Sunset, but I don't know (and hope not to know) by how much.

I believe it is the same blower that your heater uses, so if the heater fan works, the blower motor is fine.
