Default Header & modification

Hope someone can help. My garage that is carrying out the UMW2 upgrade for me called to say that upon removing the turbo brackets, the turbo came off complete with the manifold flange!
He seems to think that the triangular flange originally slid over the collector pipe and this has now broken loose.

If this is the case, how does one go about grinding out the flange in the first place?
What are the chances of getting it realigned and welded back on?

Do NOT fix.. Welding 10 year old Stainless leeds to cracked welds and trashed turbochargers..

You will have to purchase a new heat exchanger or a GOOD used one..

Does this mean that modifying my headers to accept garrett turbos is a no no? I would be cutting and welding on 11 year old steel n'est pas? Turbokraft seems to not have an issue with this mod???

You talk to any aerospace or industrial welder. The cracks will occur not at the new weld, but adjacent to it. The stainless is brittle and cracks.. Go to the 930 Forums and do a search about all the welded exhaust failures.. I repair 40 to 50 turbochargers a year with turbine wheel FOD damage from failed/welded headers..

Both stainless and Ti work harden during manufacturing as well as after repeated heat cycles. With turbos just downstream, I, too, would be hesitant.
