Default Will I kill the front diff doing skidpad stuff?

I'm headed to the track tomorrow and it will be quite wet so I'm sure the skidpad will be available for some traction sensing excerises. How much can I do it before overheating the front diff? Or will it overheat the front diff or damage it in any way?

Thanks!

I did 60 000mls in my first TT ....and NUMEROUS skid pan days.
Never an issue.
.....besides, that what the 4wd was designed for, wet roads

Skid pan day:

Well, I didn't break the diff, but I did break the motor... when I missed a 3-4 shift while trying to get a 60-130MPH acceleration measurement! It happened in the first session of the day so I never got a chance to try the skidpad (although another 993TT did). So far it looks like I only blew the crankshaft seal; will find out more next week after a leakdown test and the motor is dropped.

I should consider myself lucky given the 1000's of track miles I've driven in the last 8 years; there have been other mis-shifts but I caught them before letting out the clutch... not this time

Oh well, sh*t happens...

Is the engine running rough?? If it is you most likely kissed a valve.. The other thing that I would worry about is "stretching" a rod bolt.. Sorry to hear...

That blows, agree with Kevin, think you may have kissed a valve.

did you get a CEL? Mine was running fine even after the CEL(misfire). Turned out I had a bent exhaust valve and several worn valve guides. Mech said piston was slapped probably due to missed shift

pstoppani.......Im sorry to hear about your engine.....I hope it ends up being a minimum effort fix for you....hhhmmmm.......minimum cost too!

Q......your car keys are kinda safe around me......nope, re-thought that one.......no, they are not safe around me....lets just get that out in the open and all will be OK!
