Default 993tt to the track?

I have been going back and forth on whether to use my 993tt on the track...It is a nice example with 52k miles and in great shape. I have hd's with row m030 and ruf oil cooler, so it would do ok. I am just not sure if I want to beat it up on the track...

My other option would be to buy a 951 and use it exclusively as a track car.

So I am wondering how many of you use your 993tt's on the track and if so, how badly does it tear it up. I have done some DE's in my previous porsches and didn't notice any adverse wear besides tires...but they weren't my beloved turbo either

I need some sound advice from my rennlist brethren

No harm in the occasional DE, just don't go nuts.

Painters tape from Home Depot. I had 23k on mine and did DE's.......repeat as needed.

yoou've got to tape up stuff like the headlights if you're running on a track I'd think, but other than that you can bra it, or clear-shield/guard/bra whatever that product is. oh and don't forget the leading edge of the rear wing-that's the one spot that gets magic rock chips.

wear and tear...just brakes and tires unless you hit something or go off track. If you've got a tow truck already, it might be best to just get a 951 and track that- that way you can really go for it with a clear head.

No reason to own it if you don't track it, unless you're saving it for someone else to track later. Any wear incurred is a badge of honor!

but some of us think that anything put on the track should be disposable and I have a hard time putting the 993tt in that category.

Depends how you track it. If you go out and run around the track at 6500rpm and are jerky with the drivetrain you're going to accelerate wear. If you focus on being smooth, heel/toe, and keep the rpm's around 4-5K you're still going to accelerate wear but nowhere near as bad as the former.

I agree with C.J. on the clear head statement. If you have the means, a dedicated track car is a great way to go...especially if you plan on doing several events a year. And who knows, you might end up racing the damn thing.

That would be true for racing, but not a properly run DE event.

it applies to hpde too; if you can't afford to ball it up and just walk away, then don't track it.

I have both the 993tt and 951. I bought the tt thinking it will only see the track once (just to see what she can do). Now I haven't taken the 951 back since the first track event of the year for me. I love the tt on the track and it has so much power that you don't have to set up close behind another car before the corner (and get crap on the front of your car) as you can easily pass on any straight. I do plan on taking the 951 to the next event in sept. although I think I will be wishing I had the tt. If I was going to many unfamiliar tracks or lhad or was racing or pushing that much harder than I do or had less track experience I think I would prefer the 951. I do still love driving the 951 but do notice a big performance difference. the tt is so smooth and well balanced at the track it hardly feels like it is pushing. In regards to the front, if your car has no stonechips definitely get the clear bra (it is discussed on other strings at detail) otherwise the tape should be good enough, I would be concerned about cooling issues at the track with a conventional bra. I think the 993tt and 951 are a good combination.
