Default Paint protection

Is it a good idea to install a paint protection kit on the 96 993tt? this dealer is charging me $1,500..worth it?

no way - the dealer is just performing a walletectomy. You can get a very nice detail job for a fraction of that

edit: If it is a clear bra job, that would be worth pursuing although $1500 is still pricey but not nearly as overpriced as some of those wax jobs

if by 'paint protection' he means 3M clear bra--I say go for it. I had my done by a pro for $600 ish

yes its a good idea. That price is a tad on the astronomical side.

What happens when the protection film is scratched and little pinhole tears put in it by a rock: do you end up having to replace the film? I don't think you can touch up the film....is the film more resistant to the chips?

Just wondering because the cars I am looking into mostly have the film on already.

Rubbing alcohol applied with a q-tip usually does the trick when removing scratches or imperfections in the 3M material.

If you have a stone chip all the way through the 3M film, it would have to be replaced. BUT. It is very very rare for something to go all the way through. (I was just unlucky!)
The film is many orders of maginitude more resistant to chips than paint.
