Default 993TT rear wing problem

Have any of you ever had the "grille insert" on top of the rear wing deform for any reason? I have recently had this happen where the back edge of the insert warps and rises in certain spots. It creates a wavy line at the rear of the insert where the rises are at points where the insert is not attached to the rest of the rear wing. The wavy line corrects itself after cooling takes place.

I assume this is due to heat, but I have never noticed this before and have cerrtainly driven in much hotter conditions. Thanks.

Do a search.
There is a thread discussing that.
Plus there's an Excellence (magazine) article discussing a fix for a warping grille insert.

yes this is the normal course of behavior. heat warps the grill. you can add thin aluminun braceing with tie wraps to help this. i did that. however this is not the best look for a street car

I just got one off eBay to play with and it has a deform in it also. I'm going to see if I can find the Rennlist thread for us.

Well - the cars are 10 years old now - maybe the part should just be replaced.

I think it's inevitable, but I try a little preventative maintenance as mine has just barely started it. When I get home after a long run, I simply pop open the rear lid and let the heat of the engine bay escape without the wing taking the brunt of it. It may only prolong the time until I have to buy a new one, but I think it's well worth it.

I was just looking at the as new 1996 993GT2 at RPM Sportscars. For $245,000 at 44km you too get a warped grill. Makes me feel a lot better...

And believe me; I am in no way badmouthing Mr. Joseph. He has the finest goods on the planet. Just making fun of myself and how compulsive I can be...

Tour 18,

Congrats on your ebay purchase. Details? I see you're in Flower Mound. I'm here in Dallas. Do you ever go to local PCA stuff?

Any luck finding the thread? I looked but couldn't find it. Then again, I'm new at this.
