i know the subject has been beat to death but here goes....its different now...ive actually got the money in hand!! a friend has a white 1996tt with 15k miles no stories $74k............or should i go for one of the many 02-03 996tt's with the same mileage and a warranty..its not a daily driver maybe 5k miles per year

 

993 is sexier IMO.

 

Since it's a weekend toy get the 993. Friend or no friend still get a PPI. See if he can be flexible on price so you can have some doug left over for mods. If it still has the SUV suspension, that would be first to go at 3k+..more folks will chime in..

 

Both are great cars. Have you driven examples of each? That should be the deciding factor. Money should even out... 993TT will depreciate less, but the warranty on the 996TT will balance out the cost of repairs. You simply can't go wrong with either... buy the one that stirs YOUR soul. 993TT or a new 997TT, the 996 version will go down in history as the red headed stepchild of the turbos. I was at the same decision point not long ago, ended up passing on a friends 993TT(too many stories), and got a new 997TT. Didn't even consider the 996tt.
