Question Aqua planing problem in wet

I am running Pirelli 295x30x18in rims rear and 225x40x18 on front of my TT and find that it is scary as hell in the wet at any speed over 60mph .

The vehicle aquaplanes somewhat badly.

Just wondered if anyone else has this problem

There is about 60% of tread wear left in both fronnt and rear.

I'm not sure either whether USA tyre sizes are measured this way as I am from Australia.

Light rain? Heavy rain? Standing water?

Default Aquaplanning

I have the same size tires as you have on my 96 993tt, but am running Micheline PS2s now but ran Bridgestone S-02s in the past. Both sets of tires had very good performance in rain of all types at speeds higher than you noted. I might look at another set of tires.

Hmmm. I run P Zeros 295s and 235 as my "rain tire". No real issue unless it's standing water.

Thanks guys........seems to be a typical problem, except for Scotty.

My problems are basically only in standing water, then it's like driving on ice.

Alignment is fine, guess I need to try another brand.

Thanks again for all the input.

I have found that the Michelin Pilot Sports are really a great all-around tire. I tried a couple of sets of Bridgestones, S-02s and S-03 and hated them. They were horrible. The Michelins are really predictable even in the awful wet weather we have here in Seattle. Today is a prime example.

It goes without saying that on any of these tires, in a wet climate, have to be replaced earlier before the tread wears down as far as you would in a dry environment.

PS2's much better in the wet vs. S02'S ..But I like the S02's better in the dry although the tread goes about 2x as fast

I totally agree on both tyres definitions personally. Aqua-planning if your tyres still have thread, is from the alignment, ask me how I know.
I had the pirelli's, then the SO2A, then the Pilot sport N1, and the car aquaplanned. Worse, the ABS triggered on low speed stopping on paved roads.
The moment I did a total geometry + kinematic toe, the car is stuck on the road even in pouring(standing) rain.
The pirelli's and SO2A are more aggressive in dry, the car has a cart feeling more than with the Pilot sport, in my opinion
But the michelins in the rain , to me, are irreplaceable

had Pirellis on one of my BMW's, aqua planed at 70mph and swore would never drive in Perilli's again. never planed in Michilins or Dunlops on my Porsches or SL 500. Maybe Perilli's are made only for aggressive dry road driving.
