Default checking cam timing

Can the cam timing be checked (and adjusted if found out of spec) with the engine in place?

Yes, but for most it is easier to remove the engine and do it on a stand. I believe RUF leaves the engine in when doing their conversion.

Since Ruf changes the cams on their turbo R conversion, I think the engine has to come out. On my car, they split the case and started from the ground up. They even installed brand new cylinder heads.

I've seen a picture of the Ruf tech changing the cams with the engine in the car, just removed the rear bumper and exhaust gear.

Were they changing over to old style , keyed cams and cam wheels ?
If they were, then the oe cam/crank lock tool that needs the motor out wont be needed. Smart move !
