Can we remove bumperettes from rear bumper and just have paint underneath??

Default Can we remove bumperettes from rear bumper and just have paint underneath??
If you can it seems like it would look really cool to just remove the bumperettes and plug any hole with the bumper plugs. Is this possible, or do you have to buy a euro spec bumper?

You are going to have 2 big holes that will expose the aluminum rear reinforcement bar.

Or check in the DIY section... some people found a cheaper alternative
I'm not convince about the long term durability of this fix but seems to give good results from the pics
