Post .wav files of exhaust systems

There has been lots of discussion here on exhaust systems and muffler / cat bypasses.

Ages ago, I put up some .wav files of my 993 and a set of mufflers I was playing with.
I have a another set of mufflers, so here are all 3
**crank up the volume**

Modified standard mufflers (effectively muffler bypasses)
Mille Miglia mufflers

oh, and for the V8 lovers:

hello,

on the topic of exhaust systems, does anyone know where you can purchase systems by mille miglia, gemballa, ruf and so on?

ive read about the RSR exhaust that is cheap and everyone seems to love, im just a little concerned with sending my stock exhaust to be modified (that is what is done, or am i wrong?)

ive looked into systems by B&B and fabspeed but fabspeed says B&B is a crappy system and ive heard clips of the fabspeed system and it sounds like a lawn mower being run with the throttle in the "choke" position.

i guess it is safe to assume that the air cooled turbo will always have that unique sound to it, but the fabspeed sound (which can be heard on their website www.fabspeed.com ) sounds really unattractive. personally, i like the sound of the mille miglia exhaust, i just cant find anything about it on the internet. if anyone has any input on this, please post it.

thanks

Q - What kind of mufflers are on the "modified" .wav. file? aAe you currently running the Mille Miglias?!?! The X5 sounds nice - is that the standard exhaust??!!

Fingercots - I have B&B mufflers on a NA 993 - too much low resonance for my taste at cruising speeds, but once it gets to 4000 rpms and opens up, it's quite nice! They came with the car but if it had been my choice I would not have bought them.

hey david,

im not totally sure, but i think the modified wav is the fabspeed exhaust. the fabspeed site also has sound from the car starting and honestly i think it sounds like the car is on the verge of stalling. almost like the sound of a v8 with racing cams trying to idle, rough and ugly sounding.

fingercots,

www.gemballa.com

I'd go for Ruf. They sound great.

I tried a set of Mille Miglia mufflers on my tt and whilst the sound was appealing -nice and deep and smooth, I found an annoying resonance which I could not live with. The Mille Miglia's appeared to be well made and finished. One noticable feauture was that the boxes were smaller than others I had seen. I now use Cargraphic mufflers which are made in the UK, these have no resonance, are tolerably loud (with 100 cell cats) and will flow the power .
I still have the Mille Miglias if you want to try them.

hey tb,
thanks for the heads up on millemiglia mufflers. i am wondering what the deal is with the fabspeed mufflers. a guy from fabspeed posted something saying that the clips on their site are of the bypass pipe, not the muffler they sell for the 993tt. but that post disappeared for some reason. now im really interested.

I'm not sure what "heads up" means
The post about the Fabspeeds disappeared 'cos I think it was written by Fabspeed's owner who was probably deemed as advertising on the board which is not impartial advice. I can tell you that what Mr Fabspeed meant was that the sound you have heard is of his muffler byepass pipes, basically they come off your cats and straight out the back with no further muffling. I tried a set but with sport cats they were much too loud, but with stock cats they may be OK.

tb,

what i meant by "heads up" was the information you gave me about the mille miglias. i forgot that the vernacular of LI and England dont always match up. its probably a good thing that accents arent heard on this board.

anyway, i pretty much knew about the fact that those clips were of the bypass, without the mufflers.

"I tried a set but with sport cats they were much too loud, but with stock cats they may be OK." did you mean that you tried the fabspeed or the mille miglias with the sport cats?

thanks

I tried both with the sport cats, but it was the Fabspeeds which were way too loud. The Mille Miglias sounded nice but had a horrible resonance right where you don't want it, in the cruising zone.

I just installed the Mille Miglia and it has a very nice deep tone at idle, more throatier at 2nd, 3rd, 4th gear above 3000 RPM when you punch on the gas. I didn't hear any resonance during cruising. I also felt less restriction during accelaration as if the car can breathe easily now.

I'm also keeping the RSR for future use.
