Post Leaking Power Steering Reservoir on TT

Has anyone had a leaking power steering fluid reservoir on their 993 TT? On a recent trip, it looks like I lost most of the fluid from somewhere near the reservoir. If anyone has seen this failure, do you know what part actually failed (i.e., the reservoir, hose, gasket, or something on the pump itself?).

I had this happen to me too. I thought I had a wheel rubbing on a fender when I made some turns (my car is lowered) - it turned out I was just very low on power steering fluid - it looks like it was just the cap that was loose - I guess there is enough pressure that enough had come out - it had even managed to coat the engine air filter pretty heavily. Once I had cleaned it all up, refilled the fluid and made sure the cap was tight I have not had a problem since.

I HAD THE SAME PROB WITH MY TT. EVERY 6 M0S I WOULD BE EMPTY. IT TURNED OUT TO BE A BAD SLAVE CYLINDER. ALL THE FLUID WAS COMING OUT OF THE MASTER CYLINDER AND LEAVING P.S.F IN THE TRUNK.
HOPE THIS HELPS.

I had a similar experience a few months ago. Keep an eye on the clutch fluid reservoir in the trunk. If the fluid level rises over time (or overflows)it is a good indicator that fluid from the high pressure circuit in the slave cylinder is leaking by into the clutch actuating low pressure circuit. In the absence of an external leak, the only place for the fluid to go is back into the reservoir...then it overflows.....then it makes a mess in the trunk. Replacement of the clutch slave cylinder solved the problem. In my case, the leaking cylinder had no effect on clutch actuation.

I found that the leak came from a hairline crack in the hose from the power steering pump to the center of the hose connection block behind the reservoir. Apparently the engine vibration caused the hose to crack near the weld on the pump side. This hose has vibration dampeners to help prevent this. I guess, over time, the hose could still crack. Aside from a failed 02 sensor, this is the only other failure I have seen on my 993 TT with 40K "hard" miles (5K miles with Ruf Turbo R). There cars are incredibly reliable.
