Talking Exhaust Systems

After hearing Bill P's 933tt with Fabspeeds I have decided I need more growl. Although those are a bit loud.

I had someone inquire to Robin about RSR availability and he doesn't have cores for a 97 Turbo S.

My parts mgr can get Techart's at a pretty big discount. And they are in stock.

Does anyone have thoughts on this? I guess I could have mine removed and sent to Robin but the car will be down a while and I would have to leave it somewhere as I am not a mechanic.

Any help would be great!

I didn't know there was a difference between TT and TTS mufflers other than the tips.

David,
I don't believe that there is any difference between the turbo and the turbo S mufflers. Perhaps mb97tts was referring to the paucity of used cores for ANY turbo.

mb97tts,
If you want to see how Techart looks, this old Ebay link (no association whatsoever but I had bookmarked the link and the auction has long since expired) refers to Techart mufflers that look similar to stock OEM mufflers. And if the growl factor is not good enough, then PERHAPS you can further "RSR" it with Robin. Of course I have no proof or ability to verify if these mufflers are based on stock, if they are stock or if they are further modifiable or indeed if they are actually Techart at all as they claim to be.

Depending on how much you want to spend, there is always the idea of buying new mufflers from some of the rennlist sponsors or your local dealer and then shipping it to Robin. This way you simply keep your original or have it for use in decibel restriction zones.

Just talked to Robin, what a great guy!!!

The mufflers are the same it is just the way the dual tips are secured. So, he just needs to see how they are attatched.

Marty, see your email. You are welcome to use my FabSpeeds while you are waiting for Robin to upgrade your old mufflers. I should have the RSRs installed next week leaving the FS for your use. I can't get it to the shop before that. The neighbors will all be over again to see your other new Porsche!

mb97tts:

I also have a 97 tts and have recently replaced the mufflers. The mufflers are slightly modified stock tturbo mufflers. The modification required is to cut the exhaust pipe of the muffler (The pipe that the tips are attached to) to about one half its stock length.
This modification is required in order to allow the dual tips to attach to the muffler exhaust pipe. The dual tips attach in a way that is comletly different then stock tturbo (or Carrera) tips. Porsche could have made this much easier - but they didn't.
If you purchase new mufflers make sure you save the original mufflers to determine exactly where the pipe on the new mufflers should be cut.
I was also going to have Robin modify my mufflers to his RSR spec but the mufflers are currently tied up in legal action. Consequently, it may be some time before the mod.
If you have any other questions about the tts please feel free to contact me directly.

MB 97TT:

I had TechEfx mufflers (very similar to RSR) on my 96 993TT and currently uses Techart mufflers. Actually I just recently sold my TechEfx muffler to Ran.

The TechEfx muffler is slightly raspier than the Techart. TechEfx also slightly louder during warm-up (hearing more of the clucking sound). They are also lighter (11.4lb) than the Techart (17lb).

The oval shape of both muffler is the same but the Techart is about 2.5 inches shorter in length (more compact).

You cannot go wrong either way with RSR or Techart. Depends more on how much is the Techart and how cheap can you get a stock muffler core.

Hello all,

I ran Tech-Art on my 96tt and they sounded great. I currently have a 97tts and can say the mufflers are the same, only the tips/attachment are different. I have the old (96tt) cores available. I've not heard the RSR's on a turbo to compare with the Tech-Art for sound, but does anyone know if they give the extra few HP like the Tech-Arts?

Cheers,

Alan

No, they mount on the same location using stock hardware and stock heat shields. I am using Porsche big tips on my Techart. But I can also use my stock puny tips.

I think you meant for the tts dual outlets. You con use the clamp that is stock on the s. I, however, used the large, single outlet with the Tech_arts.

Thanks,

Alan

mb,

You might keep an eye on ebay for a set of 993TT cores. I lucked into a set in good condition for about $105, and sent these to Robin for modification.

This solved the problem of Robin's short supply of Turbo cores and also preserved my original mufflers for the future if I should ever want to return the car to stock.

Anir,
That is why I was researching Techart. I thought if I liked those and purchased new ones I could save my mufflers in case I want to go back to the stock setup.

I can say I have entered a new world buying this awesome car!!

Everyone on this board has been great to this newbie!!

mb,

You might find this 993TT Techart Exhaust on Ebay interesting. Bidding currently stands at $499.

Good luck.

Anir, Thanks for the heads up. I am going to give those a shot. New in the box for 500.00. I was
quoted 1300 for the same thing. And that price was a discount.

Plus I keep my cores.
