In the 993 series, there was a color darker than Silver and lighter than black. It was somewhat reminiscent of Slate and somewhat reminiscent of Seal...

I've always described it as Charcoal. It is a stunning color. Does anyone know its offical name?

It was a special color for the 993 called Slate Grey Metallic (code 5959).

Hmmm. Was it different than today's special Slate. (Also code 59) It certainly appeared less green... But mayne that's just the body style. I had two 993TT's (first one was stolen) and they were both Arctic silver.... what a great car...

The colors are very similar if not the same. It is very possible that the formula has changed as the paint quality differs from model to model (oil vs. water based). I had a Slate grey 964 Carrera 2 and it looked much richer than the Slate grey I see on 993's and 996's. The quality of the finish was a lot better too.

993 Colours (Ref WVK 196 613 98)

There were 2 colours darker than arctic silver:

They were mirage metallic (T1) and vesuvio grey metallic (K3).

Unless the US colours were/are different!
