It is my understanding that the MY '95 cars were "SS" and not "TS."

MY '95 cars are SS, that is my point. I understood that all 993TTs which were produced in '95 were MY '96 cars, hence the TS chassis#. Your figure of 78 MY '95 cars I wonder if any of them were given an SS chassis#. My chassis# ends TS370412, does this mean it is the 412th built for the '96 model year

Cars built in '95 had serial numbers from 99SS370001 to 99SS370078.

where will those first 78 1995MY cars be, do any posters own one ? My guess is that they were for the home market. Porsche GB got their demonstrator 993tt in May 1995, so I know my car was one of the first in the UK. My car is MY 1996 and it would have been built say February 1995, I know there are always new MY cars built the previous year but this seems a bit extreme. Any ideas on why Porsche did this and anyone know the differences between a MY '95 and MY '96 ?

My car is about that vintage....

...but the chassis number is TS371130

The car was first registered on 27 September 1995. Interested to find out if there were any differences of note.

The book "Porsche 911 engine history & development" by Tobias Aichele states that there were no identification numbers for the 1995 model year for 993tt's - the first 993tt would have been WPOZZZ96ZTS370001.

The "7" after the "3" indicates a Turbo and there were 78 Turbo cars produced for model year 1995. They started at 99SS370001 and ended with 99SS370078. The "T" program indicates 1996 model year.

Do you have proof of the existence of the cars with the SS chassis #s because the author of the book I referred to states that there were no SS designation 993tt's even for '95 cars, they started with the '96 designation ie TS -this would explain why my May 1995 registered car is a TS

I took delivery of my 993TT in end of April 1995 (probably built in Feb or March). My vin number ends with TS375074.

What doesn't make sense is, does that mean that my car is the "5074"th turbo car made under model year 1996? How could that be? They don't even make 5000 turbo under year 1996 designation.

Kinda extreme to have the 1996 model that early. I had problem getting insurance quote since the car is not even in the insurance database at the time.

For 1996 US and Canadian cars started with TS375001 and ended TS376357. So, your car is number 74 in the series.

Another reference to this anomoly is in "Porsche 911 Turbo -Reference Handbook" by Mike Connell. The info on chassis #s is mainly for the UK market. He states:
"As a general guide the model years run aproximately August of each year through to July the following year. The only exception to this rule is the 1996 model Turbo 4 which was produced from March 1995 onwards."
In his tables of model year v's chassis #s, the 1995 year starts TS370001 and below it the 1996 model year- exactly the same TS370001
