Info on tachometer pulse (rpm)
Can anybody on the list give me the info on what is the easiest way to tap into the tachometer pulse (rpm) that I need to connect to a LED rev-indicator.
Should I tap it from the coil or is it easier taping into a wire behind the dashboard.
TIA,

From what I recall, most aftermarket RPM indicators are programmed to work off of the ignition coil. You usually tell it how many cylinders the car has. The 993 TT has a crankshaft position sensor which sends an "unusual" signal to the ECM which then uses software to calculate RPM. You probably can't use this signal. I don't know if you can use the signal to the tach. It's probably specially formatted for the VDO electronics. Unless someone knows for sure, probing with a scope might be required. Otherwise, the coil is your best bet.

Bill:
I am using a LED revmeter from my motorcycle. It only need three inputs, power, ground and tachometer pulse. It is easy to tap to the tacho pulse on my bike.
I probably need to find the wiring diagram for the tachometer on the 993TT.
