Question idle speed too low?

Guys, I've noticed when my car is fully warmed up that the idle can drop to and remain steady at as low as an approximate 600-650 rpm (I'm guestimating off the Tacho). Is this too low? I'm sure it makes getting cleanly away from a stand still at least twice as demanding as if the idle was 800-1000rpm as it is when cold. Any thoughts much appreciated.

This is set by the DME. I'm not sure if you can adjust this yourself.

There was some talk on this board about fixing idle fluxuation problems caused by a dirty idle stabilizer valve ( isv ). Something to check out???

Thanks Jeff. My idle is very steady. It just seems a tad on the low side compared with other vehicles I've driven once warm. Can you describe where your car idles on the Tacho once it is fully warmed up - mine idles with the needle just above mid-way in the 0 - 1krpm range. Cheers, M.

I'll keep an eye on it next time I take my car out.

Hey, if you are keeping your TT at idle speeds, then you are going too slow...

Another thing that you might want to do is check out the OBD2 output. This hooks directly into you car's computer. Perhaps the tach is off?

Btw, what is your redline? Mine is at 7000, even though the manual states that it should be at 6750.

I totally agree Jeff I only noticed because I fill up with oil once in a while, oh yeah, and sometimes I stop at lights .

I'm pretty sure my red line starts at 6,500 and I'm also pretty sure that the computer limits the rpm climbing at exactly 6,500 too. Do you have an 'S' or an 'S' chip or something?? I'll check again to be sure but I think 6,500 coincides with exactly 3 o'clock on the tacho so it's easy to remember as I never see the needle past the 3 mark, but then again I'm usually relying on my ears at those rpm because the eyes are pretty busy outside the car...
