Post Steering wheels

I'm a 944 Turbo owner but my dad owns a 993 Turbo (which I'm lucky enough to drive too) and we both hate the original steering wheel. Its too thin, too big and seems to make your palms sweaty too! I swapped my steering wheel for a 964 RS 3 spoke wheel, which is much better. Is there another Porsche wheel that will fit as a direct replacement retaining the airbag?

Since you want to keep an operational airbag, your choices are rather limited. One is the Porsche 3-spoke wheel which has a slightly thicker rim but not a smaller diameter. Another is an Atiwe 365 mm wheel which is sold by many companies. This one is sold by RUF with their insignia:

Thumbs up

Stan,

If you end up wanting to source a wheel similar to the one mentioned by Viken could you post where you found it as I have the same feeling (and am also in the UK) but have not got around to spending the cash yet... so I haven't done the necesary research.

Cheers, W

I swapped out the original steering wheel for a Porsche 3 spoke airbag wheel. I never measured them (and if Viken says they are the same diameter then they are the same diameter
) however I can safely say the 3 spoke feels a lot smaller in the hands (perhaps due to the thickness) and you can see a lot more of the dash board too. Probably all psychological but I find the overall steering feel to be more direct and comfortable then the old wheel but I guess a lot of it comes down to personal preference. There is a thread where this has been discussed on the 993 forum but I don't know how to attach the link.

Willbank,

You can find the RUF airbag wheel at Weissach Performance www.weissach.com or you can get the same wheel w/o RUF insignia from FVD www.fvd-usa.com The RUF wheels looks nicer as the centre section matches the wheel better than the FVD wheel.

I had the RUF wheel in my 964 Turbo for a week and loved it, but I'm not an airbag fan so I'm going to a non-airbag Momo wheel. It's legal here to chance out the airbag wheel with the correct documentation (from Transport Canada).
