Question brake caliper stucks, bad seals?

Hello all. I'm new to this site. Before I look for answers to my brake question I'd like to commend the founders of this site because this forum is a thing a beauty! I love the avatars by the way, seems like someone has an anime fetish? I personally don't own a 993TT, but a close friend in CT has a 97.

He's telling me that lately he the brakes tend to make a squeeking sound. He later found out that the pistons are stuck. I would love to rebuild them for him but I haven't been able to locate a rebuild kit for less than $220. Maybe it's just me since I've only dabbled with lesser cars but that's A LOT for a rebuild kit.

Does anyone know where I can get a reasonably-priced kit? Another thing: where could I find salvaged 993TT calipers? I'd love to powdercoat them and engrave his late daughter's name on them (odd I know, but not really that awkward considering that's what he named his car). Any tips would be greatly appreciated! Thanks all!

Welcome to the board. It's a wonderful way to make a slow day at work go faster.

Rennlist also has a classifieds section. You should check it out sometime. I remember seeing this a while ago 911/944/928 Porsche/Brembo Rebuild Kit and it may help you. I don't know if it is applicable to your car, so you should send an email over to him. Perhaps the turbo kits are different.

As far as used calipers, they come up on eBay once in a while and in the rennlist classifieds also. You may also want to check out http://www.pca.org. They have a classifieds section also.

Thumbs up

Thanks for the reply. I'll send that gentleman an email and see what he has to offer.

I really wish I was more familiar with the compatability of the brakes between all the Porsche models but I wouldn't know the first thing. Aren't the brakes on the 993TT, 996 and 911 turbo the same though? They're all huge and appear to be roughly the same size... Again, I really appreciate the info.

Neither the calipers nor the rotors are the same for the 993tt / 996tt comparison. Through the 993tt all calipers (except the Boxster and early S calipers were multipiece designs. From the 996 the monbloc design from the Boxster is used(though in a larger size). Information about the specs of the latter cars(from 96) has been hard to come by(for me) but fairly comprehensive specs are available at my 'Pelican Home' if anyone would like to share more comprehensive data , I would also like to learn of it.

Here's an ebay link

Porsche 993 Turbo Big Red Brembo Calipers!!!

Don't know if it is a good deal or not though.

You should also send an email to www.partsheaven.com.

Good luck.

Jeff
