Default The was Sir Issac correct thread ?

OK so 60-130mph tells us quite a bit about hp of Porsche turbos and more importantly "relevant" hp, this is the power one uses for daily driving, squirting past other traffic, stop light races ( ) etc.......

As we know, Porsche hp is renowned for its staying power, for hanging around when things get hot and other manufacturers engines start heat soaking and dropping way below their hp ratings.

The Ultimate hp test IS the 100-300kph (62.1-186.4mph)

It is unachievable for most, even with big hp you need a good straight couple of miles to do it - public roads are a definate no no.

Obviously areodynamics start to come into play in a big way over 120mph so one should bare this in mind when reviewing the numbers.

Autocar published some great data today which will set the benchmarks for this thread, times achieved at the VW proving ground:
100-300kph (62.1-186.4mph)
Bugatti Veyron: 15.7s
Ferrari 599: 26.4s
Murci 640: 28.4s
Ford GT: 29.7s
Merc SLR: 33.1s
997tt: 37s
Corvette Z06:37.8s

Other Sport Auto Published data:
996ttGemballa750: 17.6s
RS Tuning 993tt (special aero body)533hp: 22.2s
RS Tuning 996GT2 542PS :24.8s
Carrera GT: 30.4s

On to your esteemed RLers (AX22 data)
Guy R (Ruf GT2 Nardo): 24.8s
TB993tt (520hp mode) : 30.48s
Leon S (Ruf TurboR special): faster than 30.48s

I like looking at this data (anorak) and will update this thread as and when it comes in.

62-186mph...that has to be the best 16-30 seconds ever spent inside a vehicle!

nice post toby... I'm looking forward to this one developing...

I must say though IMHO there's something about the rs tuning data from sport auto that just doesn't add up those cars must have had more power to post those times

All the best

Since they are run up on an engine dyno why can't someone simply post a dyno sheet? You must have one Toby given how much you have spent (!), how about it?

Oh...we only need to get to 186MPH... for a minute there I thought this may be difficult. Kevin

We did this yesterday 2 times on the Autobahn. 100 to 300kph.
We took no times as we had more fun looking the digital climb above the 300kph to 315kph.

It was a stock 996tt but fun nevertheless.

I drove a 542hp 996GT2 done by RS-Tuning. It was for sale by a well known 993GT2 race team. He said the hp rating is real and it does not have more power. His GT2 definately has more power with the secan pressure sensing :-)

The 542hp 996GT2 car was not as fast as Jeans car when he was over here on the Ring.

Toby,
What's the max speed you'll can reach in theory?
Presuming rev limit is stock and standard gearing.

Rassel
Below is a chart of my current configuration which indicates ~196mph at my rev limit 7070rpm
I think in reality that since my 285/30 tyres are stretched over 11" rims rather than 10" that the gearing is slightly different and that my maximum is indeed the 193.3mph seen at Vmax.
So in relation to this thread my car is pretty well ideally geared for the reaching 300kph.

I'm afraid it really is just a case of other peoples numbers being wrong, RS use a very expensiveBorghi & Saveri engine dyno, same brand as used by Ferrari F1 and have protocols which give Porsche type numbers, Ruf also quotes good numbers for his packages eg 590 Nardo, but owners want to see dyno sheets which may say something else -Ruf knows that in reality it is Porsche type 590 -I can go into more detail about this if anyone is interested
Regarding the mega fast RS T 993 with 533hp, the car is in the article below, it was 1500kg, but had very special body mods to the front with a much improved aerodynamics, they did about 4 of these and apparently it is a massive job to engineer, so much so that they refuse to do any more. Also this car had a special 5 speed gearbox with ratios optimised for the broad torque curve of this car.

Sorry for my sloppy (crap) english. I was regarding the standard TT gearbox and standard tires/wheels.

there is definitely more to it than that.....either power numbers are massaged or the times are shiatsu (that's a special japanese massage BTW)

p.s the figures in that article aren't independent, at least RUF provides no claimed figures and are all true 3rd party tests, for me that is the essence of a honourable and honest manufacturer.

Leon
If you look at www.rs-tuning.de and go to the "press" section the test from Sport Auto is there - The car runs a MAF network and a side to side intercooler, it will not have more than the 533hp quoted -that is all the components can produce.
It is the aerodynamics and long gears, I think 300kph came up in 4th with 5th taking it to 221mph !

The figures in the article are from Sport Auto - that is independant.
In fact Sport Auto wanted to do a CTR2 test against this car but suffice to say someone backed out
Edit
What is truly mind boggling is that I saw a silver 993tt at RS with the same bodywork aero package and a Secan EVO MAP motor pushing close to 700hp - one wonders how fast that is

Toby,

questionable figures to say the least,

p.s WHO ARE sport auto ??
are they a reputable independent source, I suggest not, just because they have published these figures doesn't mean they can't be massaged. If you show me any kind of suggestion that they are respected or even heard of by some reputable entity I shall reconsider but in the meantime I don't even understand who they are (it seems from a link that it is some bloke on a private website compiling alleged performance figures) Doesn't seem like it would be a cornerstone for performance references....

what i do know however is that your rs tuning was significantly slower than my RUF at recent vmax and that's real world performance...like I said, something just doesn't add up.

unless an intern engineer built your engine and the others are the 'special ones'

Whoops
Next time you are at a European airport (outside the UK) take a look at international motoring mags - you will undoubtedly find Sport Auto Magazine, it is probably THE most respected car magazine in the world in terms of the tests it does on cars, it measures their times round the 'ring and hockenhiem and it measures their lift in a 200kph wind tunnel.

Now you are getting a little silly - I have explained in detail that I was running 520hp and why. Your car went 5mph quicker because my car is geared to do 193mph and that is what it did even with only 520hp.
I don't know what your idea of significant is, surely not you zooming away in second whilst I was in third ? My judgement was that your lightweight car was producing about 540hp - no more.
Leon
Lets do some bench racing since you think your Ruf is so much faster than mine - I'll send you the AX22 and you do a couple of 60-130runs (if you can you 60-155 even better, I have data on mine up to there) and send it back to me - we can then see which car is significantly slower OK
