This makes my head head hurt

Getting back to the big hp 993tt, I remember that RS Tuning reached 900hp (flywheel) for a race 993tt motor so these sorts of figures must be possible - I would think the cars must be just about undrivable since the onset of boost in the big turbos needed would seriously unsettle the car

Why are people so obsessed with HP? I'd go for a well balanced car over brute HP anyday.

Its about exploring the boundaries and pushing the limits. Its just plain human nature to try and make things better and faster.

Besides, without these obsessive individuals pushing the boundaries for us, there would be no advancement in technology.

What is so amazing about his engine is it has brute power when you put your foot down. But, it also idles along at 900rpm and will roll along in heavy traffic with the temperature gauge never going above the first marker. It is so docile you would never know what it is capable of.

In third gear, if you open the throttle the rear end will start go sideways, then it just grabs and thrusts you forward. And this is an AWD 993!!!

As a closing point, dont think the car can just go fast in a straight line. This thing laps cars on a racetrack. It has handling and looks to match its power. It is a perfectly balanced car.

I will have to get a video of this thing and post it so everyone can see what I am trying to describe.

Thanks msindi,

great link.
I had the diverter valves on my car changed recently but unfortunately my OPC used Porsche parts again!!! I just didn't know about this issue at the time and I am somewhat reluctant to pay several hundred Euros in labour costs again to have Baileys installed. I guess I will wait until mine fail again.

vrus, thanks for the posts - most interesting!

All that extra power plus the advantages of a low temp engine and no cooling system sounds very desirable!

If your friend wants to get some practice on a 993 engine, he can borrow mine anytime

Unfortunately it only works with forced induction applications.... However, he can put a nice twin turbo motor in your car if you so desire.

Autobahn-

AWE Tuning is the official U.S. importer of the Bailey Motorsports Diverter Valves. If you talk to the boys and girls on the 996TT forum, you find that many of them have the Bailey's in their cars.

The link below will take you to our website for more information.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to call.

Nice cars.
Can you tell us a bit more about the "Porsche Motorsports Intercooler" - The photo is a little blurred but it looks just like a stock I/C to me ? Thanks

Hi TB993tt,

I spoke with Al about the intercooler. It is in fact called a "Porsche Motorsports Intercooler". It is similar to the one that Cargraphic and FVD sell. They are all made by a company in Germany called L&R I believe.

He told me that on the underside near the inlet tube it has the Porsche symbol stamped into it (looks like a Triangle with a P in it). He runs the same one on his 858RWHP TT so it must be the best one.

Al told me that he did a comparison of some of the intercoolers and this one was the best. It only shows a 0.5 psi pressure drop from inlet to outlet and flows at least 30% more air. I forget what efficiency rating he said it had, but he said it was one of the most efficient.

Just thought I would pass along the info.

Victor
Very interesting and now I am confused.
My understanding was Porsche made 1 intercooler for the 993tt and the road GT2. The first competition GT2 got another intercooler (which I first thought you may have, but it requires a modified induction system and since you now have the original I/C back on then I presumed you have the stock inductions system) which looks similar to the stock tt one but has longer cores and the induction pipe sits differently -won't bolt on to a stock tt. The third Porsche I/C is the GT2 EVO Secan manufactured $15000 unit which is different from the other two in that the air enters form the back and this I/C is very large, uses the second type of induction and is good for the biggest of hp numbers. The FVD and Cargraphic I/Cs are known in Europe as the "V" type because of the "V" in the middle at the back - these are made for TTP -I am pretty sure he has them made locally to him and not by L&R.
I am really interested in finding out what you and your 858hp man have as it must work (to be able to cool an 858hp charge !) Any chance of a part # or asking your man about the induction, stock tt or GT2 race (pressure sensing type with the mass flow sensor after the I/C I believe)
Thanks

I know this is an old thread (hey, i'm doing my homework!)... but I would like to add that I have been to Al's shop numerous times over the past years and also had the opportunity to get a ride in his red beast.

The car is truely amazing considering how civilized it drives in traffic and hot summer days. He gave me an impressive demonsration just cruising down the road at 50km/h in second gear... then mashed the gas; All tires started spinning and the car did a slight 4-wheel drift/shuffle to the right as it clawed for traction. You know the feeling you get when you stand on the brakes @120km/h? Well, that's how your eyes and blood feel as this beast accelerates.

He claims to have two K26 turbos (don't know what trim) remapped stock ECU (with many hours [and one motor] tweaking it) LeMans rings, twin plug head, solid rockers, custom ground cam and 3.8L Mahle pistons, rods etc... I watched the boost guage hit a maximum of 1.8bar and comes on hard around 3700rpm. Don't quote me on this... but Al claims that with the 5th wheel measurements done at the Super Tuner Challenge in FL his car achieved a quarter mile time in the high 9's (don't remember the mph).

My friend Pierre had the opportunity to witness Al race a Suzuki Hayabusa in the Red beast from the passenger seat. The bike got the hole-shot, but as soon as Al hit 2nd gear...they already caught up to it and by 3rd gear left him more than a car length behind!

All-in-all it was a wild experience... 858wHP? I am still skeptical on that claim since I've had the opportunity to be a passenger in another heavily tuned 930TT that accelerated at the same rate (according to my ***-dyno) and "only" claims approx 650HP crank @1.7bar. I am trying to arrange a Porsche-shootout here in Toronto with the 2 car mentioned above, my own GT2 and SEM's 780rwHP car. I'll keep everyone posted and be sure to get video footage (all owners are willing to participate, just waiting on my car & to find a time and place).

Just found this post while searching for something else.

Have anyone confirmed this car or what? It sounds very much - to good to be true!

I told Al we have to arrange to get some video footage this spring/summer of his car in action. I will post when I get some footage.

His car is being torn down right now because the heads were starting to lift under the extreme boost (1.6 - 1.7 BAR). He has to put stronger ARP studs on there. He is really busy right now also because the engine technology is starting to take off so he hasn't spent alot of time with his car.

Also, Al frequently attends the Porsche events as he is also an instructor. Keep your eye out for a Guards Red 993TT tearing up the track; it's his.

Hey, if you are ever up in Toronto, let me know and I'll give you a first hand tour.
