Post One or Two Fuel Filters?

Did I read on this board awhile back there were two fuel filters on TT's? Tried search, couldn't find it. Thanks.

Yup, two fuel filters:

928 201 081 04 Fuel Filter (front)
928 110 253 00 Fuel filter (rear)

Can't find where the front fuel filter is though. If you find it, tell us where it is.

Replacing the rear fuel filter is easy, just be sure you have plenty of ventalition, gas fumes build up pretty fast!

Dick,

I have tried in vain to find the front filter for over a year (should be located near the left bottom edge of the fuel tank in the trunk). The dealer can't figure it out, either. In fact, they were convinced that there was only one filter, until I showed them the factory service manual.

As a result, the 928.201.081.04 is still gathering dust.

Even if you do find it, you may not need to replace it.

This filter is a plastic mesh type of filter. You could probably just rinse it the debris ( if any ) and reinstall it.

From what I have heard, this second fuel filter bearing Part # 928.201.081.04 is in the fuel tank. Perhaps it serves as a secondary safety filter with no replacement interval recommendation.

You can find the second filter on the Oil Change DIY at www.p-car.com

I think that in actuality, it's probably ok to leave the current one in there, but being the hyper **** rennlisters as we are, we feel the need to change ALL filters, etc.

To me, it seems logical to want to change the front filter, since it "sees" gas (and thus contaminants or debris) before the rear filter does. Therefore, common sense might suggest that it would tend to get dirty sooner than the rear filter, which is downstream.

Thanks for everyone's comments. I got a rear filter, but the dealer sent me a 928.110.253.06, is it wrong?

At first guess, I say that the filter that you got is the newest version. The last numbers are usually reserved for minor changes to the part number.

For example the small oil filter ( 993 107 203 03
) numbers started at 00 and went to 03. The current one ends in 03.

After you take the air box out, you can line up your new filter with the existing one and just eyeball it and see if it looks the same.
