Clear Bra
I've been contemplating the addition of a clear bra but would like to see one in person. Is there anyone in the SF bay area who would be willing to let me check theirs out?

huh?
you mean like dynashield or armor-plate or whatever?
check Carlsen, they've got it on the Cayennes.
There's an "art" to applying this stuff (to bevel or camphor the edges so it doesn't catch the wax) it's definitely not for the average Joe as a weekend project in the garage.
Worth doing if your paint is flawless, in my humble.

One on a polar silver TT and another on a midnight blue cab.
There's probably a learning curve, sure, but as long as you take your time, you'll probably be ok. You might want to practic on another car before you do your p-car.

If I ever have my front bumper painted (fix a few chips, fix a small crack, remove the bumperettes?, perhaps add a splitter?), I'll definetly add a clear bra. I've seen them, and they look great. About doing it yourself, by all means practice on your beater... your Ferrari, Viper, or Corvette, before you think of doing on your Porsche.

I'm looking at the precut clear material offered by Xpel (here's a sample). My front end isn't perfect but it's still pretty clean. My only concerns with going this route is how noticable this stuff is and how well the precut patterns match the contours of the car. Before taking the plunge I'd like to see the installed product in person.
Oh, and given the difficulty ratings, I'd probably find someone else to do the install. I haven't had much luck with sheets of adhesive backed anything.

I'm currently having my front hood and front bumper replaced and repainted, and I'm adding the Turbo S spoiler lip (see my Wednesday post on 993 board about "Tire from 18-wheeler delaminating and smashing into TT"). I'm strongly thinking about adding some clear film protection to the front of the car now. Anybody have any photos of it applied to a dark colored car (black or blue) so I can see whether the edges are too stark or unsightly to pass aesthetic muster? I'm hopeful that it's virtually undetectable. If the only worry is that the edges catch wax and polish residue, I'll just be careful with the wax/polish removal process, not a biggie.

Stongard on my arena red where is not hardly visible. I have seen it on white where it is quite noticeable from within 10 feet and appears somewhat yellow in comparison. I think most darker colors will be fine. I wouldnt go without, a nice piece of mind. But as always, those small projectiles seem to know where the protection ends and seek higher sheet metal.

KM - I am the Polar Silver 993TT owner Jeff is referring to. If you would like to make a trip out to HMB I can show you the results. I ordered the kit from Invinca-Shield and the fit was very good.
John in DC - as Jeff notes another local rennlister has it on his blue cab. It loks very good. The new clear bra material is very thin compared to what was used in the past. Consequently, the edges are almost invisible.

Any more info on the new material, I have 2 cars I want to do. One white, one seal gray however some of the above comments about white concern me.
Any specific recommendations (other than dealer) as to where to get it done and how much it costs?
Thanks in advance.

I had StoneGard installed using their recommeded installer and it was horrible job. They reniged on the bogas warrantee. Have since had it redone using Martin S. installer in San Diego and its great.
Bottom line, its the installer period. I'd insist on seeing their work before signing on the dotted line.

I had debated the same thing. I called every P dealership in my area and they all recommended the same body shop. Find a body shop that installs from a sheet instead of a kit and you will have much better results. Kits usually have noticible gaps. Mine was applied from a large roll of clear guard (or whatever brand it was). The only lines you can see is across the front (standing next to the car at the right angle). There are absolutly no lines to see on the bumper or the spoiler. Added benefit is that they will put the stuff where you want. I also have is behind each wheel, mirror and under the door handle as it is tough to buff out those scratches that inevitably get under there.
