Post Fitting K-24s

Hi guys,

I'm finally taking the plunge. Whoever said it's a long slippery slope wasn't half kidding...

I'm fitting a set of K24s' . My tuner has confirmed that I have the 430-450 Hp factory upgrade ECU which accounted for the 1.1 bar boost readings on full throttle (thanks for that bit of info Autobahn) among other things. With the fitting of the K-24s I should be seeing 480-500 Hp (hopefully!) Will update when car's out of the shop with possibly actual dyno results. If anyone has any words of advice or tips on what else I should look at while she's in there, it would be appreciated. My current setup:

Factory 430 ps upgrade ECU.
S oil cooler
K-16s
K&N in stock filter box
No cats
PSS-9s.

cheers,
Kris

I'd also install a 5 BAR fuel regulator... Also, make sure your turbo tubes are in good shape and the orange ends. Be REALLY careful of the oil lines going to the turbos. The one on the passenger side is almost impossible to change (there is ZERO clearance at the engine for a wrench).

Good luck....

Thanks Bob. Quick question, would the DME have to be remapped to accomodate the 5 bar regulator or does the 5 bar fuel presssure come in only at high boost situations (hope the question was clear??)

cheers,
Kris

you shouldn't need to remap the ECU. It will help in tuning the A /F ratio with the new turbos.

You might consider an upgraded intercooler if you want to get the best out of you set up. Andial or Cargraphics seem to be well regarded.

Thumbs up

Thanks Bob/Scott. Scott, my tuner has actually recommended the cargraphics intercooler. Unfortunately my bank balance won't stand for it at the moment <img border="0" alt="[crying]" title="" src="graemlins/crying.gif" /> It's going to be breadcrumbs and water for a while (with K-24s on the side )

cheers,
Kris

Krish,
I thought the factory upgrade was from 0.8 to 0.9 bar?

Don't know the actual boost specs on the higher hp cars Sameer. All I know is stock is supposed to be 0.8 bar whereas my HKS gauge reads about 1.1 bar at full throttle. Anyone know where this data might be or at least a broad corelation between boost and Hp?
At 1.1 bar I'm pushing the envelope on the K-16s so I decided to upgrade to the K-24s. I'll be dynoing the car while checking the AFR to find out how it all comes together.

cheers,
Kris

If you are taking the plunge for the K-24s may I suggest you try and get the "Race Version" with the ceramic impellers and the smoothed/polished internals. If you get the standard K-24s (retail is around $1,400 each) you will see alot of lag on your car especially if you are running a full exhaust.

I have the K-24 Race setup on my car (they were bought through FVD $2,900 each) and my car builds boost just above 2,000rpm. I am at full boost by 3,200rpm (1.1 or 1.2BAR).

My turbos whistle even at idle.

Seriously, thanks for the tip. Would love to have them (they sound great!) but can't justify the expense (saving up for a pair of 'solos', whole different vice). I have dropped my cats though with test pipes in now so I'm hoping I won't suffer too much loss of bottom end, only time will tell .

Krish,

You might want to look around a little. I found a set of K24 Hybrids (Porsche factory EVO Motorsports units) for like $1200 for the pair on eBay. They only had 3,000 miles on them, and were PERFECT (previous owner just wanted MORE power). So deals are potentially out there...

But will take note of your advice with a timeline. If I can't find a good deal out there in thirty days, I'll just get my tuner to drop in the K24s. So if anyone hears of any good deals out there please pm me.

cheers,
Kris

Sell the 300z and you'll be able to get that intercooler
