Default VERY O.T. thoughts on Audi S4 or V70R??

Hi,

I need a new cruiser for work... any thoughts on either of above, specifically regarding reliability and fun factors?? or general impressions..

cal me weird; I like the looks of the V70, but want that V8 in the S4... although I wonder about out of warranty issues with both...since I tend not to dump vehicles.. (I know get an extended) .. although no one seems to have much bad to say about the S4 for warranty I can find...

Thx in advance... ed

S4 Ed, (BTW, sorry I havent sent the AX-22 yet)

I am in the process of deciding S4 (new 2007) or BMW 530 XI.
The Audi has 90 more Horsepower Ed!!!
I have (2) good car guy buddies with S4's (6 speeds), mine will be a Tip,
and remember Audi had 5% off list for Euro Delivery.

Good luck and let us know,
Oh, I had Volvo's S70 T5, and S80 T6 good cars but quirky and not real driving machines,
more lexus like than German like...

S4 doesn't get great mileage, if that matters to you. otherwise it's a fun car. are you talking sedan or wagon? only downside to an s4 is immediate and large depreciation (if looking at previous generations gives an accurate idea), although i guess this is not a big deal as you plan to keep it for a while.

We have an 04 V70R and it has been quite reliable. A little more room than the S4 for both hauling and people. We did buy an extended given the complicated electronics. Drive 'em both and decide - trite but true

We just turned-in our 02 S60 T5 (non-wagon version of the V70) as the lease ended. Overall, nice cars, VERY comfortable and good reliability. Fit and finish, as well as overall quality not like the older Volvo's, but what you'd expect in todays marketplace.

Car performed well but always lacked that connected feeling like that of a BMW or the like. I tried to talk wifey into a A4 or 5 series when we leased the Volvo, no joy.

Lease the Volvo, if you decide to go that route -- they depreciate like mad!

+1 Chris. (I agree)

BTW, the S4 2007 is the new style grill so it is the first year of that body style.
If you go on Autotrader.com and sort for 2006 S4's, they sure are not cheap,
(it does not look like they depreciate rapidly like someone said)
Volvo's have terrible resale (ask me how I know).
You should be able to buy a new S4 for about $49K (without nav)

We have an 04 S4 Cab. Huge fun factor. Fast, nimble and has a back seat which is usable by a normal size person.

Thanks all!! I probably should take advice and drive both.... (tough to find a v70 here).... and the depreciation is scary (remember I'm entering middle age and worry a lot :-)..).. thought the $5500 back on the v70's started this whole thing.... and I do think the S4 will be in the 20's in 2-3 years somehow(on teh 05-06's)... I'm getting cheap... where's that 996TT like depreciation?!?!?!?!

Marty, thx for thoughts... and no hurry... and if I dont get her it's no biggie..

No hurry Ed? It's gonna be snowing soon!
Actually, planning a road trip to Protomotive maybe December or January for custom tuning. Runs after that should be better. Might try my GX2 though.. if I can figure out how it works..

Since you like twin turbos, had you thought about the new BMW 335i? You can get it in a coupe and sedan now. I got a 330i for my wife a year ago and has been a great car. I drove the 335i coupe and found it very nice. The 335i should get reasonable gas mileage around town compared to a 993tt since it has direct fuel injection and can run with a higher compression ratio. The engine is very smooth and the 6 speed automatic transmission is very smooth and responsive. You can't go wrong with their 6 speed manual transmission. Stay away from the navigation system since it uses their dreaded iDrive interface to complicate your life.
