Post 993tt vs 2003 GT3

There are times i get fed up with looking for a good preowned 993tt, and check some 996 models, but, always came back to my first love.
I am hearing a lot of good things about the new GT3, infact one review had mentioned that finally a 996 that drives like a 993tt.
It starts at 100k, damn fast and a higher max. speed. But,It is neither a turbo or a 4wd. I know none would have driven it yet. But, just wondering how the specs. compare.

FWIW, I happened to participate in a "race" which was basically 2 laps around a private curvy track (max speed 75-80mph)last week. It was organised by Porsche Club of Saudi Arabia, a dozen 996TT (none stock), one 993TT (mine, 100% stock with "R" Dunlops), 2 GT2s, 1 GT3 and a few 996C2 and C4s. I won the overall categories event in my "old" 993TT by 4 seconds driving at 90%, ahead of a 540 HP Roock 996 among others. The GT2s were new so they were not pushed hard. I am not even a great driver, only did 3 rallyes 10 years back and some karting races. My car is 100% stock with Dunlop "R" tires. I test drove the GT3, great car but nowhere near a nimble 993TT, beautiful exhaust note though and great balance. I was thinking of selling the TT, now it just won't cross my mind.

jean, great to hear that you have actually driven the gt3. Just wondering whether you are in touch with the gt3 owners, curious what they think of it as compared to 993tt.
Most local dealers have sold-out of their assigned gt3. One in columbus,OH. has one of four left.(guess,it will be gone soon too)But, we obviously don't have any for test drives.
I am kind of debating on considering gt3 as i have no clue on fixing up cars, and cannot handle any mechanical problems, which a 6 to 7 yr old 993tt ought to develope (My old acura legend had a small start up problem, sat in my lot for months, till i gave it away to charity).
Anyhow, just curious what the gt3 owners think of it, and how does those aerodynamic styling lines on fenders look (we just have pictures), and whether any of the gt3 owners have more pictures of their cars on net, and do you think these gt3 are going to be limited production or is it easily bought in saudi(heard porsche prices are better too over there?).

Jean, actually i am talking about the 2003 gt3 that are being sold in the us, and the columbus dealer says I could get it in 2 months if i put an order in. I have to say I am tempted. Yeah, the older gt3's were not imported to us, and they were totally different (i think the 03 gt3 is toned down to be legal here).

Jeeva,

From the bits I've read about the 03 GT3, it sounds like a great drivers car. I'd be sorely tempted if I wasn't so in love with my 993TT. I must add that my 1996 TT has 53,000 miles on it, and runs like new. Which is not to say that the previous owners didn't get stuck with some pretty hefty repairs (leaky steering rack, fan resistor, noisy front transaxle, leaky clutch hydraulics) plus some tranny work way long ago. I would go for a $100K GT3 over a $130K 996TT. But over a 993TT? Never.

The 996 GT3 is the new model, since the guy had just purchased it. They have been available in this part of the world (ROW) earlier than the US, same as all sports cars in general. The car is great, to say the least, but I prefer the punch of the 993TT, BTW this was the feedback of several guys as well. Then again it is all about tastes. Personally, I would buy "even" a 996TT rather than a GT3. I tried to post some pictures but have a problem with my CD reader. Will do if it works.

one thing you really want to think about. There is nothing like the scream of a high reving NA motor. But then again, there is nothing like the whistle of a turbo and the pull once boost hits. Also, AWD would be a big seller on me.

Best thing to do is give it a drive if the opportunity arrives.

I almost bought a used GT3 late last year and decided that I'd really rather spend the money on a TT....more bang for the buck value and I really don't want to take a huge depreciation hit.

Jeeva - I think if you're really looking to spend $100k+ then you should be comparing a GT3 vs 993TTS, or vs a 993TT plus another fun car (Speedster or Boxster?)

My $0.02
