Jack,

Thanks to you and your team for publishing these videos. I think we can safely conclude a few things:

1. A Ruf 993 Turbo R, FVD 996TT with Ruf Exhaust, and an FVD 993TT with open exhaust and GT1 turbos all accelerate nearly the same from about 30 MPH to 140 MPH.

2. Jim's car is noticeably faster than the Ruf when we start in third gear at 60 MPH. If we start in second gear at 30 MPH, the Ruf is a bit faster. This illustrates the better low-RPM torque of the Ruf, and possibly slower turbo spool-up with the larger turbos in Jim's car.

3. A stock Viper is faster than a 360, at least in a straight line!

I think we all used 100 octane (?). The Viper was using 91 octane. I don't think the Viper really cares what gas it's using.

BTW, I have some speedo and tach video from the Ruf. If I can upload this to someone for publishing, let me know.

I did notice two incorrect labels. Apparently Rob's car is not here. That's Amir's car. Also, one video labels the Ruf as a 996, not a 993.

For information on the fixed or newly added videos check this same post on the 996 Turbo board.

Thanks.

Hey Jack and Bill - looks like you had some fun. Did you have a private track day? If so, how come I wasn't invited? I would love to see how my modified 930 stacks up against those cars (it will pull a stock 996TT).

Those videos seem to confirm my earlier suspiscions that the 993TT is the best bang for the buck right now. <img src="graemlins/icon107.gif" border="0" alt="[icon107]" />

Great time at the track Thanks to Rob for setting it up and Ben for the videos.

A point of clarification, I made all my runs starting in 3rd gear. The Ruf would have jumped me at the 30-40 mph even if I had started in 2nd, as we have done in the past. Since the majority of my events are at Willow, we have tuned the car to work in the 4000 rpm range and up. I don't believe that my turbos spool up slow as it is significatly faster than a stock or slightly moded 993tt, its that the Ruf is a monster in that lower rpm range.

Hopefully we can get some other tunner cars out at our next ego bruising event.

Jim,

Thanks for the clarification. This now makes sense.

You're right about the RPM. The Ruf is getting 404 lb/ft @ 3000 RPM. At 4500 its 535 lb/ft. I suspect your car is quit a bit higher at 4500.

ZCAT3,

It was a private day. The 996TTs and 993TTs in the videos are very fast. Probably 4 or 5 car lengths ahead of the stock cars by 140 MPH. Check your 60-120 MPH time. These cars are between 6 and 7 seconds.

The 993TT is an awesome car for the money. Seeing them sell for under $90K just does not make sense. Porsche didn't make too many and their performance and reliability is outstanding, especially with relatively minor modifications.

Hi Bill - I too am amazed at where the prices have gone. I also think that due to the low build numbers that these cars may have collectors value some day. My car is a Weissach modified car that supposedly puts out 500-520 HP. As I also have a modified 930 that puts out 450 plus HP (this has been on the dyno). I am pretty confident that the 993TT is at least aorund the 500 HP number. It certainly has more top end than my 930 (even with 400 pounds more to haul around). My wife and I really want to get them both on a track like Willow some day to do a few runs like you all did. It would be really interesting to see how the 930 compares.

Tried to look at the videos last week, then I needed an upgrade that I couldn't find (or my QT-program couldn'd find it).

Today when I tried another film, my QT kindly asked me if I wanted to upgrade - yes thank you. Then I recalled these filmes that i really wanted to see.

However, they doesn't seem to work now. Are they removed from the server?

Please put them up again.

/christian

Jack, the link is not currently working.
Will the videos be available again?

Sorry guys -- the host service was experiencing too much traffic/activity. As a result, the website is currently off line. It should be up in a day or two after changing our contract, i.e. paying them more money.
