in home depot today for some stuff and happened across the weatherstrip etc section. they had something called poly foam caulk saver, which is a polyurethane cord 1/2 inch in diameter that is normally used to pack deep gaps before caulking. picked up a 20' roll for cheap, stuffed it under the rubber seal as mentioned above, and WOW!!! creaking 95% eliminated!
Update on this old thread. My windshield started squeaking again, evidently the packing compressed enough over time to allow movement again. I just packed in some more foam and it quieted right down.
Amazing Fix. After reading this thread yesterday I went down to the dealer and picked up some rubber cord P/N 996.541.903.00 Got home and installed it in no time. Drove the car and no more squeeky window shield. 98% noise is gone as far as squeek and cracking sound.
Just wanted to add my feedback on this. The foam rubber cord (996.541.903.00) works! Took some effort to install in places, and there was one spot where there was too much black goo in the gap to fit the cord in (my windshield was replaced a few months ago). But the creaking is GONE! Woohoo! Cost under $21 w/ tax. Now if only I could find such an easy fix for the squeaky brakes...
Since I posted on this old thread, I should give an update. The squeaking did come back after a few months, so I pulled out the cord, which looked rather compressed. I had enough new cord to do almost the whole windshield again. And again, no squeak.
So, it seems that this is a periodic maintenance item, and the amount that you get from Porsche under that part number is enough to do it twice.
FYI...I did this mod a few years ago and today I noticed a small amount of rust on the bottom left of the windshield. I'M PISSED..... When I took all of the foam out you should have seen the amount of water that came out with the foam. My car never see's rain either. Just car washes... Just keep an eye for such a problem. I'll deal with the sweek..
When you insert the foam you want to be sure that the rubber seal covers it completely, there shouldn't be any foam visible. Also, if the windshield is replaced be sure they paint the scratches in the channel that inevitably occur from removing the old glue.
