This may be a shot in the dark, but seeing as the seller is a dealer in MD, I would inquire if this car was purchased at the Manheim auction last Thursday. I have a close friend that goes every other week and ironically he told me he passed on a 97 Speed Yellow Twin Turbo with 2X,XXX miles(no particular reason). FYI, if this is the car, it went for 62k.

David, I've never heard of County Line Motors, but if it's anywhere in the Balto-Wash area I would be happy to take a look at the car for you. Only catch is that I'm going to be out of town from the 19th (wed.) to the 24th (Mon.). Just let me know, I love an excuse to check out P-cars.

David;
I sent you an e-mail tonight. I wanted to buy this car from the last private owner. He was polite but very hard to communicate with and we faded apart...
CAA;
Can you confirm that auction sale and price? Your help would be greatly appreciated.

John - County Line Motors is in Laurel, MD; I too have never heard of them before.
993-996 Enthusiast - Where did you originally see the car listed and how long ago? Do you remember how much he was originally asking for? Did you get a chance to see the car in person and perhaps test drive it?
Thanks all

993/996 - What kind of info do you need from me? I'd be more than happy to help if I can. The reason I am over here is because I just sold my 993 C4S and am investigating a 993 TT purchase myself. I believe my email is listed so feel free to PM me if necessary.

At the request of a Rennlister, I went to see the car this afternoon. I've e-mailed him my findings and am posting the same here. It turns out the dealership is located in the town right next to where my parents live and I grew up (Columbia, MD). After raiding their refrigerator and driving the 15 mins. over to the dealership, I found a small, clean shop specializing in pre-owned BMWs, Mercedes, and Porsche autos.
I spoke with one of the salesmen, Joe Farah. He was a nice fellow, very very curious about the 993 Turbos, gawked at my car, asked a lot of questions. I was happy to educate him about the Turbos and the 993 series. They had a couple of Boxsters on the lot, along with a few 7 Series BMWs and S series Mercs of various generations. The yellow Turbo at issue is a two-owner car. The first owner for 26,xxx miles and the second owner for about 2,000 miles. Curiously, they did not have any of the service records and there were no service logs in the manual. I wasn't happy to hear that. You can draw your own conclusions. They said they could get the records from the previous dealership easily. I recommend getting those records and a thorough PPI, as always.
The salesman said they received the car on Friday, and hadn't had an opportunity to detail it yet.
The exterior was in excellent condition. No obvious signs of bodywork or paintwork anywhere. The nose and rear quarter panels were so incredibly clean for a car with 28,000 miles that there might have been a respray of these areas in the past. This dealership said they were unaware of any paint or bodywork, except for a repair of the door check strap on the driver's side with a weld and repaint. The first owner lived in the South (the dealership thinks in GA). There's a sticker that says "This car test driven by Hurley Haywood. Brumos Motor Cars." on the lower windshield. The salesman said, "Who's that. Is that a big deal?" More education. The second owner lived in PA and obviously didn't drive it too much. If I had to nitpick, and I mean nitpick, there is one stone chip in the middle of the nose, and one on the right corner area of the nose, and a very small crease (about .75 inch) on the right rear bumper, at the corner, probably from some light contact in a parking situation. Either way, neither of these is immediately noticeable to the naked eye. The wheels are in good shape with no visible defects or scuffs. For my beloved Rennlisters, I even crawled on the ground in my slacks and dress shirt to look under the car. No obvious leaks or damage visible under the car, although the exhaust area was pretty dirty, rusty, and had above-average scuffs from road debris etc.
The interior is in good shape. It has sports seats with yellow backs, yellow belts, and yellow deviating stitching along the dash, doors and seats. White gauge faces. Golf ball shifter with aluminum and carbon fibre. There were some minor scratches on the aluminum portion of the golf ball. There were some minor scuffs and creases in the leather in the back seat area, nothing major. Just trying to give as much info as possible. I fired up the engine and it sounded good, idles well, revs well.
I took a ton of detailed pics, check 'em out at pics of 97 993TT for sale . I put them on my Rennlist album rather than uploaded them because the album gives you the option of selecting full size, which shows more detail.
Let me know if you need any more info or help.
Good luck.
Regards,

Yes, I do. The car was owned by a gentleman name Terry in eastern PA. I looked at the car in December. Ok, but not great. The drivers door strap was repaired with a very sloppy weld and so so paint, which made me wonder if someone would not spend the time or $ to repair the door on a 100K car what else did they do not do. The front was repainted as well as the rear quarter, at least that is what I thought. Overall the car was not nearly as clean as my 96 993 with 35K miles, so I walked.

Great write up.. Very nice of you to check out a car for a fellow rennlister.
Looks like the suspension is definatly lower than stock. And what you said about the underside looking more crusty/rusty than it should is right also.

John - Many thanks for the detailed write-up and for posting the pics! Was it me that you sent the email to, or someone else? If it was me I never got it - my email address is dntee@yahoo.com. Thanks!
Jack - Thanks for your notes. Did you also have a chance to drive the car, and if so any thoughts? Thanks.
Jeff - Yeah, suspension does look lowered. I also noticed in John's pics and those on eBay that the interior and esp seats look somewhat shabby...surprising given how little the car was supposedly driven by the last owner.

JackQ;
Months ago I talked with Terry, the last owner, but he was hard to work with long distance. Paint Comments: Did you make the repaint comment because you didn't think it looked like the correct wear and tear for 28,700 miles? Or, did you do some scientific measurements, paint thickness?
Suspension: I have a note that it might have the European set up, RoW 030 butI can't confirm it.

Being a new Rennlister, I am absolutely amazed at the assistance that one gets from other Rennlisters. I'm just outside the Columbia, MD area also...makes me wish that I knew about Rennlist when I was looking for my car 3 yrs ago.
But hey, if a good Black 993TT surfaces, I'll be back in the market.

I looked at that 993TT today...out of curiousity. The interior does seem worn beyond its 26K miles and the underside of the front looks like someone got too close to a curb.
Nice car but asking $81K.

I was going to chalk up the faded and somewhat worn front seat bottoms and side bolsters to the car being in the intensely sunny and hot area of Georgia for most of its life. Also, the car hadn't been detailed before I saw it, so there was no telling how much better the leather would look with some nourishment. But, on the other hand, I couldn't figure out for the life of me why there was thick rust on the nuts and bolts of the rear seats and belt anchors.
The Maryland 993 denizens should get together sometime.
