18s or 19s... pros & cons?

Anybody have opinions about the Cargraphics wheels? They look great. I think that gold centers on an Arena Red TT would be sweet; my 15 year-old son thinks it would be too gaudy. What do you guys think? And how the hell do I hide THIS from my wife?

yes you need to remove it if you use the Euro version that Gert sells, but not if you use the shortened version.
check the 993 board...a few guys there have done the remove and fill modification.

I made a BIG MISTAKE today. My son and I took a trip down to "Wheel Enhancements" in Los Angeles. Yipes. He has many of the Kenesis, Fikse, BBS, HRE, and Gemballa wheels on display and in stock. Its a little like pig heaven. A great opportunity to see the wheels side-by-side, and notice the differences between them. Maybe you guys know all this stuff, but for me, it was an eye-opener. He also has the reverse-drop-center wheels next to the regular wheels. Cha-ching. Oh yes... bling-bling also. I'm more confused then ever, but it was great.
Leaning towards the Cargraphics wheel. He doesn't have those in stock, but can order them.

Steve - I also have the Competitions w/ SO2s on my 98 cab. Very nice wheels but not as light as Fikse and Kinesis...the next set I buy would probably be the Kinesis K58 or K59 - very light and customizable.

Just to put my $0.02c worth in.
I agree regarding all of the cons - really i do - but i also openly admit that (a) Louder is Prouder!
(thats why i have BY-PASS pipes - and LOVE em) (b) i have a wheel fetish 
and (c) my name is Simon and i am a Porscheholic! 
So that leads me to this - i have a set of track wheels 18" also have a set of stock wheels and i am now the proud owner of 19's (champion motorsport RG19 3 piece) These are forged and will weigh less than say... RUF ( but they are SEX on a STICK) They will look similar to the wheels on the car pictured - Mine is black as well - so now we have 2 cars running around Sydney with RARE wheels on them........
As for the potholes and the kerb rash - i NEVER valet my car (Sydney remember - not LA) and it isnt a daily driver!
Do you think they will look good? I like a LOT!!!!!!!!!!!

Its very weird to see this two-year-old thread resurrected. I like those wheels, but they do seem a bit out of proportion to the car. Maybe I'm just too used to seeing 18"s on 993s. IMHO.

I ran 19" Ruf Chromoptics on my car for several years. 19x9 with 245/35
and 19x10 with 285/30's. The car was lowered to Euro ride height.
I could feel a slight difference when I first installed the wheels...maybe the weight.
The reality is, for street driving, I don't think you loose much in performance.
I could not tell any difference in acceleration or braking at all. Turn in with the wider fronts was definitely better. As for bending wheels, the tire sidewall profile
with my setup was the same as the original 18's...no problems. I had so-3 pole
positions on the 19's. My only suggestion is not to get Pirelli's...God awful noisey
and seemed a bit less stickey, which is what the car came with from the factory.
My final thought, there is no comparison in cosmetics. A 19" wheel with the
proper offset looks IMO significantly better than any 18" wheel available.

I always wondered why street cars had such big rims compared to race cars like in F1 and nascar (where the sidewalls are much higher profile). Is it a heat dissipation/unsprung weight thing (from a functionality point, compared to cosmetics fo rhte street cars?

Yikes, I was suprised to see Steve OFE asking a bling bling question!! then I was suprised to see that this was a 2 year old thread. There is no benificial reason to run 19" rims on this car.
