There IS a 993 hard-top that does not have rain gutters - the Targa.
Let me tell you , if you every drive a car without gutters in the rain, you will regret that as soon as you open the door, and the rain drips right down onto your left thigh, door, sills, etc. I had a Targa for 10 years, and that was a major frustration, if your car has been parked in the rain, and you open the door, 9 out of 10 times when the door opened water would drip onto the seat - I started to use my thumb to knock off all the rain droplets hanging on the upper opening just to minimize this, but its still gross.
If you are going to race, sure do it - but if the car has a small chance of driving in the rain, don't do it.
cheers,
Mike

I don't know how I missed this thread all this time. My PO told me by adding rain gutter faring and replacing the standard Porsche mirrors with carbon-fiber aero-mirrors, he raised the top speed of my BTR from 192 MPH to 196 MPH. That's 4 MPH on autobahn runs.
I never verified that in person of course.
