Default Banana - Next Chapter

A while ago I posted up asking for advice on what front and rear spoiler to go for to get my speeds up on the v-max days. Considering the big drag of the GT2 rear spoiler and the fact that my front splitter self destructed at the last v-max it seems a good opportunity to try something different.

So, I have gone for a stock rear spoiler, and a Techart front splitter:

http://www.techart.de/Techart_Katalo...t_spoiler2.htm

Have also gone for the RUF inserts to the front rain gutters:

http://www.ruf-automobile.de/content...31&details=166

Between speed days the rear spoiler can be swapped back to the GT2 item which is great, but sadly the front splitter is said to be a PITA to swap, so gone for ever are the cat's whiskers of the GT2 fare I have come to love But the Techart unit looks quite aggressive still and has some nice diffuser holes, think I will really like it.

What are people's opinions of my proposed new look?

Further, what improvement do you think I will see on my speed runs? For reference with the GT2 kit plus 533 hp / 729NM upgrade it ran 183 mph in a 30 deg heat in the summer. I am going to tape my S rear fender scoops up too at the next v-max.

I had thought of taking the car on a diet too; carbon doors, wings, bonnet, etc and maybe 2WD too. Though decided against it on the grounds of if (don't excommunicate me here ) I ever sell the car, then the CF and 2WD make it saleable to only a very, very small market. Project LW will have to wait till later.

Kind Regards

Martyn.

Martyn,

Congratulations, but I cannot see any pictures of your car posted? My estimate is that you will be at around 187-188mph during your next run if you do all that you say you will.

As far as LW, you do know that you can put and remove the doors quite easily, the same applies to the front hood as well...Seats?

Regards LW, I know bits can be swapped but I just don't feel it 'right' at the mo to go down this route.

Kind Regards

Weight actually has very little effect on top speed.

Fully agree if you have unlimited distance to reach top speed.

In this case the guys have a stretch of 1mile+ only, therefore acceleration is paramount, the impact of HP/weight will be shared to a larger scale with aerodynamics, but it still is the main driver behind top speed reached.

Martyn, th ecar will look great!

Update.

Some pics of the car with the new look from V-max yesterday at Bruntingthorpe:

http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/t...4605&f=133&h=0

www.verysideways.com/pages/vmax_oct_06.htm

Great to meet you VS

What do people make of the new look? I rather like it

I got my best laser speed ever of 193 mph, am overjoyed

Results table here (this table is getting constantly updated BTW as people give their speed):

http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/t...4544&f=133&h=0

I could maybe get a few more mph by folding mirrors in and taping shut lines, etc. Maybe next time

MOD

It looks fantastic.
Thanks for sharing the VMAX link, these events must be a blast. 193mph in your car is at the rev limiter at 7k RPMs, so would you have been able to reach a higher speed if you had a taller 6th.?

Leon's RUF speed is great, clearly a taller 6th gear and a lot of power too.

Still dissappointing to see those modded 996GT2s (other than the 638BHP RUF) not getting better speeds!

Mine was a few hundred rpm short of the limiter I think - was not paying much attention to the rev counter at those speeds to be honest!! A taller 6th would help.

All respect to Leon, a very fast car

Martyn, Top work mate! and thanks for letting me have the honour of being your passenger for the 193mph run.

I have to say that compared to the last Vmax with the aerodynamic issues, I didn't fully appreciate your car.
But now with the new aero package, it truly excels, the run yesterday, has demonstrated the best 993 Turbo installation I know and stability at such speeds seemed fine....if only the runway was a tad longer there may have been a chance of the "double ton".

Glad you now have your car fully sorted after all your efforts, look forward to the next one!

Were you driving down the M4 at around 1.30pm on friday the 6th? I saw a bright yellow GT2 style 993 heading London bound and thought it was you, i nearly crashed the van trying to see if you were wearing a hat

BTW i have a stock 993tt 6th gear in the car now, martyn i had it removed last time because it was too long and holding me back on the run, only managed 186 with it (very strong headwind)

all the best

p.s i think your car's look is strong..

Cheers CS, pleased you enjoyed the run, glad you think it feels stable - I was sh!ting myself TBH

JBL, no hat this time I headed back to the northern wastelands from v-max.

Ah, your new stock 6th explains your other wordly laser speed, Leon

I recall on our run together, upon hitting 3rd you romped away compared to the last v-max where there was nothing in it, that 102 fuel must be very potent. Did you take a swig of it yourself prior to the 198 run?

I dare not think of the potential of your forthcoming new addition

Leon,
That is interesting! I can think of two things, either your rev limiter is set at 7200RPMs or you have 315/30s or 285/35s....

Am I too far off?
Congratulations on the great run BTW.

Thanks BTW, my rev limiter is set to 7200rpm and i'm wearing 295/35 rears

198 run was with full tank of gas, should have stayed until the end.....
