Default BAD MAF

What are the outcomes/pitfalls of driving with a faulty or dirty MAF?

Has anyone ever tried MAF Cleaner?

A bad MAF sensor will cause some pretty bizarre glitches. Mine initially stuttered at high rpm/boost and after a major engine upgrade manifested itself completely differently by shutting down the engine after a high load shift. No engine damage should occur, just high blood pressure in the driver.

I have had a check engine light that's been giving me a "121 Load detection" code. Since this signal I lunched one turbo... it sent the hot side turbine wheel into the cat and needed replacing and the other one had a loose impeller wheel. I was contemplating upgrading to Kevin's StageI at that point, but couldn't source the funds, so I wound up sending them to Durabilt in IL, they rebuilt 1 and gave me one new 1 and sent them back the next day for under 1500. Very impressive service at that price. I don't know if the MAF had something to do with it or if it was conicidence or what. It worked great at the Watkins Glen this weekend, but the check engine light came back on with the same code.

I would know Watkins Glen anywhere. Got to love that 6' armco. Gives you a warm and fuzzy feeling inside....
