993tt vs. 997S
Has this comparison ever been made? Yes, I know very different cars -- 993tt limited numbers, has a soul, 4-wheel drive, character, amazing performance, etc. However, a 2005 Carrera S w/ very low miles is priced about the same right now as a top-condition 97 993tt. I guess that says something about the 993tt, but from what I can gather (have not yet driven one) the 997 S has a lot of grunt with the 3.8, and obviously all the luxury/niceities.
Anyway, this is not meant to start some kind of flame war, I am just curious to hear from those that have driven both....

No flame here! That can be spared for Off-Topic..
One thing to keep in mind that cost and price are not the same.
A 997 S will keep falling in price and a 993TT will perhaps move down a bit but nowhere close to the deprication of the 997S.
I, in a 450hp 993TT, followed a 997 S on full throttle recently and had to back of to keep the distance. Though I was impressed by the grunt of the 3.8.
Sure, the 997 S has a lot of luxuries and it looks nice. But I think the 997 S is a replacement for those who had non Turbos or perhaps a 965 and value interior luxuries. I don't think of it as a replacement of the 993TT. Perhaps a future version featuring +400hp would be a competitor. But for those who want performance, I'd say go the slippery slope instead of replacing their TT.

the fact that a 10-11 yr old 993tt is the same price as a new 997s is a testiment to the strong demand for 993tt cars.
There is no question that a 997s is a faster, high-tech, and easier car to drive fast.
If you are even doing this comparison, then you should not get a 993tt regardless of price.

In terms of price, the best comparisons right now are:
1. 993TT vs. 996GT3
2. 993TT vs. 997S
3. 993TT vs. 996TT
If you take price out of the picture, I think the most compelling replacement for my 993TT would be the 997GT3. Even though people on the GT3 list are freaking out about the sunroof, I'd probably get a GT3 with a roof because I like driving my cars on the street as well as the track. I think Porsche nailed the GT3 just right, just like how they did with the 993's 10 years ago.

i have pretty thick skin, but i always disagree when people throw out these elitist comments like "if you have to ask..." to each their own, right? i mean, there are some people that think you arent driving a real Porsche because yours has 4-wheel drive, same as an SUV. do i agree with that? no...but you get the point...

Jonathan - Having recently (5-6 months ago went from C4S to TT) done what you are contemplating, I can tell you that I had no reservations about my decision. There are literally hundreds of great cars that you could purchase for around $70K. If there were no such car as a 993TT would you be looking to buy a 997S or stay with your 993? As many have said, the 993TT will pretty much hold it's value where as the 997S will not. The 997S is a great car and you can get a warranty with it also! Good luck

Hey Jonathan,
We need to get together again and hit it a few times maybe on the GWB belt way
BTW, I'm going to Cresson to the Motorsport Ranch this Sat to see a friend, So maybe after the 4th of July.

You should keep in mind that these 408hp cars are 10 years old now and even with low mileage, will still need a lot of maintenance. In the past year, my 38,000km car has needed a slave cylinder, an accumulator, valve cover gaskets and now lifters. It goes in for lifters when they arrive from Germany. These things add up pretty quickly so do keep that in mind, the warranty on the 997S is pretty compelling...
btw, I give no time to people who say this or that Porsche is a real Porsche. I had a 944 Turbo S that 911 snobs used to put their nose up at. It was good they did that, because it cleared the way for me to pass them! A Porsche is a Porsche unless it's a bodykit on a Fiero.
