Default leak down / compression test

Hey guys,
Got my eye on a 993tt that I'm looking to buy. Need to get a leakdown / compression test done. Does any one have a good recommendation for a shop that can do this in the SF bay area? What should I expect to pay for this? Sounds like most places no longer do PPI's for legal reasons, but anything else specifically I should ask them to check? (read the list on 993tt.com, which was helpful) Clutch is new so hopefully shouldn't be a prob. Thanks.

Ask if they replaced the slave cylinder and accumulator when they did the clutch.
Check the power steering pump seals for leaks and ask when the belt was replaced.
As when the car had a tune-up, plugs cap and rotor and plug wires (most likely need them)
Check the vlave cover gaskets for leakage.
Pull the inlet pipes to each turbocharger and inspect for oil.
Must check to see if the Viscous coupling is intact.
Ask if the MAF was/has been replaced
When doing the leakdown (a must do) install a new set of plugs.
Ask when the tranny and front diff oil was changed
Check to see if the updated turbo to intercooler hoses (orange band) are in place..

Good luck

Does the digital display on the tach have all segments and light bulbs working? Does the third brake light work properly? Has the engine wiring harness been updated? Does the rear window heater work? Do the fan resistors work properly?

RMG (www.realmeangarage.com) did my PPI, and I'd highly recommend them.

Kevin, you will spend anywhere between $500-800.00

The money you spend now is deposit on a insurance policy. Every week I get emails with engines having to get rebuild, or transmissions that need to get rebuilt. And the folks are new owners, many have paid for PPI's.. You have to be specific. Ask them the mechanics to check these issues.

Well said - don't ask me how I know first hand. Go with somebody that comes highly recommended; not hearsay but actual experience. Make sure they check all the cylinders and not just the ones that can easily reached. Good luck!

Rob,
I'll definately check out RMG. Thanks for the recommendation. Anyone else here on this board have experience with them?

Kevin, thanks again for the very sound advice. I'll be sure to look into all of these issues.

Frank, sorry to hear you might have had some first hand experience. I guess you never really know what will come up until you pull the trigger, but having a quality mechanic go through all of these potential issues sounds like it will be dollars well spent.

Thanks everyone!

It is common to not check all cylinders.. That's why I suggested walking in with 6 plugs. I'd definately ask them for the old ones.. Don't be shocked to see different plugs in #5 & #6..
