Default WTB: 993tt (possible trade for e60 m5??) PICS

Hey everyone. New to this site. Been a frequenter to many of the other forums that I'm sure some of you visit. Had a 996tt previously and an E39 m5 before that. Now am driving the new e60 m5. Got it for the kids. Really an amazing car, but I miss my porsche. Have always had a thing for the 993tt ever since I drove a friends turbo S several years back.

Ideally looking for an artic silver, or guards red turbo with a black interior. A modded car would be great since I will be doing most of this regardless, but stock is fine too. Looking for pss9's, exhaust, wheels, etc. Would consider other colors as well at the right price.

Please let me know if any cars come along. Also thinking about selling the m5 or trading it for a porsche, but not a requirement. THought I would need the 4 doors for the kids, but turns out we drive my wife's car for most of the family outings.

Some details on the beemer:
2006 BMW e60 m5. Silver gray with black leather interior and aluminum trim. Perfect condition inside and out. Approximately 5,000 miles. Car currently has complete Hartge package including - wheels, tires, exhaust, suspension, front and rear spoiler. Check out the hartge website for more details...

http://hartge.de/html/e60m5uk.html

$15K in parts, painting and labor. Prefer to sell the car with parts, but willing to return to stock as well.

Thinking about marketing the car for $83,950 in STOCK form. Price including hartge parts I was thinking $90,950. I have over $103K in this car and for the right buyer will be selling for $12K under what I paid. Car is in perfect condition.

Let me know if any one might be interested or if there are any great 993tt's I should look into. Sorry for the long post!

Regards,
Kevin

So kmy..

How do you find the M5 against the 993tt? M5 is a very nice all rounder. Comfortable, fast, practical.. Cheers... The hartge kit is good!

Never owned a 993tt, but had a stage II 996tt that I owned for three years and can provide a comparison between the two.

In stock form, I think the m5 is faster than the turbo. 0-60 is a tough comparison given the all wheel drive and wickedly quick 1st gear of the 996tt and also due to the fact that launch control in the US m5's is pretty weak. But anything other than a dead stop and I think the m5 takes the cake. Shifting is brutally quick and quite easy to chirp the tires in the first 3 gears. I don't think anyone can row the gears of a manual this fast. At rpms above 4500 is where the m5 really shines. with an 8250 redline and 500 horses the turbo is out matched on the freeway. the car is an absolute beast at higher rpms and pulls very hard. I've never raced a 996tt on the freeway, but my sense is the m5 would "walk" away from a stock 996 turbo.

All of this is in a straight line of course. Although the m5 handles very admirably for a 4 door sedan, it wouldn't be able to keep up with a turbo in the twisties. In terms of braking, the m5 is the standard for sport sedans. the brakes are HUGE and very effective. Tough to compare to the turbo since I've never been on the track, but let's just say they are very, very good.

The 996tt was very easy to mod. I was running right around 500/500 with the turbo and I think my porsche was probably faster than the stock m5, but now there are several companies offering engine tuning kits and ECU mods for the m5, although this car will never be as easy to mod as the turbos.

I wasn't crazy about the styling of the e60 m5 at first, but have grown to love it and I think the Hartge kit makes a huge difference. I get more looks in this car than I did in my turbo. Probably the 21'' wheels!! The only thing I would have done differently is to provide the car with a bit more torque, but it's a small gripe. the power band on this car is very flat and linear unlike the turbo. best 4 door period IMO!

Really looking to get another porsche since I don't need 4 doors and I'm thinking about getting more serious about taking the car to the track. tough to beat a porsche on this front. have looked at other 996tts and a 996 gt2, but looking for something different. not crazy about the 997tt although I really like the 997 gt3. Thinking seriously about a 993tt and hopefully taking it to ruf so they can work their magic! Let me know if there are any interested buyers for my m5 or any great 993tt's for sale out there.

Hope this is helpful!

Kevin

btw, here are some pics of my 996tt.

PBJ,
Love your car! And obviously love those wheels! Your car and the one in Livermore, CA from 6 speed are the two that really got me thinking about the 993tt. How long have you had your car? Is it everything you hoped for and more? Finding it a bit difficult to find a clean 993tt. a bit worried about the buying an 11 year old car and about some of the issues I've been reading about - clutch, oil leaks, gaskets, etc.

been spoiled with factory warranties and new cars!

Well, that has been discussed severat times and since noone really knows lets presume it's stock. The race was done from a rolling start from 50 km/h. I do wonder why the TechArt was so slow in the start. I pulled 2 cars lengths instantly with my "only" 450hp.
